White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a post to X<\/a> that Trump “has concluded a positive call with President Putin concerning Ukraine,” but she did not provide further details. <\/p>\n

The call comes one day after Trump met with Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago. After the meeting, the leaders said they were \u201cvery close<\/a>\u201c to a deal. Trump spoke with Putin before that meeting as well. <\/p>\n

During a call with reporters, Putin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said the Russian president told Trump in the call that after his meeting with Zelenskyy, Ukraine launched an attack on a presidential residence in the Novgorod region.<\/p>\n

Putin said that the attack would not go unanswered <\/strong>and that Russia would reconsider its position in talks to end the Ukraine war because of the events, Ushakov said. <\/p>\n

NBC News has reached out to the White House for comment on Ushakov’s remarks about the call. Trump was asked about the Russian allegations ahead of his meeting with Netanyahu.<\/p>\n

“I just heard about it actually, but I don’t know about it,” Trump said. “That would be too bad. That would not be good.”<\/p>\n

Minutes later, Trump said that Putin informed him of the alleged attack during their phone call this morning. Ukraine has denied Russia’s claims. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one thing to be offensive, because they\u2019re offensive,\u201d Trump said. \u201cIt\u2019s another thing to attack his house. It\u2019s not the right time to do any of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
