Liverpool are facing a pivotal January transfer window as they attempt to right the course of a season which has veered badly off target.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arne Slot looks worryingly short in both defence and attack as the Reds attempt to solidify their place in the Premier League\u2019s top four and could look to the market for solutions.<\/p>\n

In both cases, Liverpool<\/a>\u2018s primary targets have appeared clear, with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi<\/a> earmarked as a new addition at centre-back and Bournemouth\u2019s Antoine Semenyo<\/a> on the agenda in attack.<\/p>\n

However, Guehi seems unlikely to move in January<\/a>, while the most recent reports suggest that Semenyo will choose to join Manchester City<\/a> over Liverpool.<\/p>\n

While this may upset supporters desperate to see the Reds address their areas of concern, journalist David Lynch says Liverpool are simply more focused on getting the most out of the players they already have than buying new ones.<\/p>\n

Liverpool to prioritise improvements over new signings<\/p>\n

Liverpool have already done plenty of business this season, signing seven new, expensive players ahead of the campaign beginning.<\/p>\n

Not all of those have worked out, though, and while fans may see buying more players as the solution, Lynch claims Liverpool will instead prioritise developing and improving the signings brought in last summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve only really been told that the feeling around the club and the talk there is that they\u2019d like to get a little bit more out of what they\u2019ve got,\u201d the journalist told Anfield Index<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhich is to see [Florian] Wirtz starting to perform in this way, to see [Milos] Kerkez really settling down now and starting to impress, to see [Jeremie] Frimpong play consistently and stay fit. <\/p>\n

\u201cThose are things that have been the priority rather than adding players.\u201d<\/p>\n

So Liverpool will not sign a new centre-back?<\/p>\n

Although this will sound worrying to supporters, it should also not be much of a surprise. Liverpool have regularly held what they have, especially after spending big money in the recent past.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, not signing a senior centre-back would seem like a huge gamble on this occasion, where Liverpool are essentially counting on Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk to play the full campaign.<\/p>\n

And while Lynch admits that he personally would like to see a centre-half come through the door in January, he says Liverpool may see a combination of Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo as being enough to get through the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Gomez isn\u2019t out for too long and with Endo back soon, you could say that centre-half is not looking too bad,\u201d he says. \u201cKonate is being managed better and can seemingly stay fit consistently, so that\u2019s the thinking there that it\u2019s enough to get them through and barring injuries it would be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt maybe indicates that Gomez\u2019s injury is not too bad, it maybe indicates there\u2019s some confidence around a summer target that they think they can get and also maybe they believe using Endo there in certain games is absolutely fine if needs be. That will be the thinking, whether it proves right or not, I think a lot rests on where they finish in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n
