Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country is engaged in a \u201cfull-fledged war with America, Israel<\/a>, and Europe,\u201d raising new tensions months after the Trump administration carried out airstrikes on three of the Islamic Republic\u2019s nuclear facilities<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In an interview published<\/a> on the website of Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian accused Washington and its allies of working to destabilize Tehran. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey do not want our country to stand on its feet,\u201d he declared. <\/p>\n

Pezeshkian added that Iran\u2019s armed forces had a \u201cfar stronger\u201d capacity than ever to respond to further provocations from Western powers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they choose to strike, they will naturally face a more decisive response,\u201d he warned. <\/p>\n

The comments come ahead of a planned meeting between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida, where Iran\u2019s ballistic missile program is expected to be discussed. <\/p>\n

Iran was hit hard by a 12-day war with Israel in June, which ended with a fleet of American bombers<\/a> striking deeply buried Iranian nuclear facilities. <\/p>\n

Trump subsequently announced a \u201ccomplete and total\u201d ceasefire in the fighting. The Pentagon claims the strikes degraded Iran\u2019s nuclear program by up to two years<\/a>, though Tehran contests this. <\/p>\n

But now Pezeshkian is ramping up rhetorical attacks on what he sees as unfairly repressive measures emanating from Washington and its allies. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey are besieging us from every aspect, they are putting us in difficulty and constraint, creating problems \u2014 in terms of livelihood, culturally, politically and security-wise \u2014 while raising society\u2019s expectations,\u201d the Iranian president said on Saturday. \u201cOn one side, they block our sales, our exchanges, our trade, and on the other side, expectations in society have risen. Consequently, we must all help with all our might to fix the country.\u201d <\/p>\n

The U.S. has imposed sanctions on Iran<\/a> for decades, targeting its oil exports \u2014 the lifeblood of the nation\u2019s economy \u2014 in an effort to exert \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d and secure a new nuclear agreement. <\/p>\n

The sanctions have contributed to a range of domestic economic challenges including mounting inflation and rising unemployment. <\/p>\n
