{"id":661398,"date":"2025-12-30T01:04:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T01:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/661398\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T01:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T01:04:11","slug":"united-kingdom-reach-deadlines-extended-to-2029-2031","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/661398\/","title":{"rendered":"United Kingdom REACH Deadlines Extended to 2029\u20132031"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As reported in our July 17, 2025,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/natlawreview.com\/article\/defra-begins-public-consultation-extending-uk-reach-transitional-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog item<\/a>, the United Kingdom\u2019s (UK) Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) began a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consult.defra.gov.uk\/reach-policy\/extending-the-uk-reach-submission-deadlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public consultation<\/a>\u00a0on July 14, 2025, on its proposals to extend the UK REACH transitional registration submission deadlines. UK REACH was amended in 2023 to extend the deadlines three years to\u00a0<strong>October 2026<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>October 2028<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>October 2030<\/strong>. The proposed new deadlines under consultation were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Option 1:\u00a0<strong>October 2029<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>October 2030<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>October 2031<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Option 2:\u00a0<strong>April 2029<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>April 2031<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>April 2033<\/strong>; and<\/li>\n<li>Option 3:\u00a0<strong>April 2029<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>April 2030<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>April 2031<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Defra stated that its preferred option is Option 1. Comments were due September 8, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>On December 22, 2025, Defra published a summary of responses and government response. The summary presents an overview of the main themes and messages received during the consultation, alongside the government\u2019s response. Defra states that \u201c[o]verall, respondents supported the government\u2019s assessment that extending the deadlines under either Option 1 or Option 2 would have negligible impact on the high levels of protection for human health and the environment under UK REACH.\u201d Defra concluded that Option 1 \u201cprovides the most proportionate approach,\u201d allowing additional time to reduce the burden on small and micro businesses and downstream users, while still ensuring that data become available \u201cin a timely and orderly way.\u201d Subject to the consent of Scottish and Welsh Ministers, the UK government intends to introduce legislation in\u00a0<strong>2026<\/strong>\u00a0extending the submission deadlines, moving them from\u00a0<strong>October 27, 2026<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>2028<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>2030<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>October 27, 2029<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>2030<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>2031<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Defra, the government also intends to introduce legislation, subject to the consent of Scottish and Welsh Ministers, to align the statutory compliance check dates under Article 41(5) with the new submission deadlines.
