Sweden picked up a third victory in as many matches in Group A at the 2026 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, and did so in style with an 8-1 win over Germany that sees them secure a Quarter-final berth.<\/p>\n
Germany<\/a> came into this on the back of successive losses, while a narrow win<\/a> over Slovakia<\/a> plus a come-from-behind victory<\/a> over Switzerland<\/a> had put Sweden<\/a> on maximum points, though they had yet to click into top gear.\u00a0But that all changed today at the Grand Casino Arean in St Paul, Minnesota.<\/p>\n Though Anton Frondell<\/a>‘s opener in the second minute was cancelled out in the eighth by Elias Pul<\/a>, it was one-way traffic for Sweden from the start of the second period onwards, which was just over a minute old when Viggo Bjorck<\/a> restored the Swedes’ advantage.<\/b><\/p>\n A tripping call against Jack Berglund<\/a> wasn’t pounced upon by Germany, and that came back to bite them, as Berglund made it 3-1 in the ninth minute of the second, before Djurgarden<\/a> youngster Bjorck grabbed his second goal of the game on a powerplay.<\/p>\n Felix Ohrqvist<\/a> scored Sweden’s fourth of the period in the final seconds, but there was no let-up in the third period, as Frondell and Liam Danielsson<\/a> both made full use of man-advantage chances, before Berglund completed the rout with one second to play.<\/b><\/p>\n The 8-1<\/a> hammering takes Sweden top of Group A for the time being, with the United States<\/a> needing a big win over Slovakia later this evening to regain first place.<\/p>\n Whatever the result, the two sides will be looking to secure top spot when they meet in the final round<\/a> of group stage fixtures on New Year’s Eve.<\/p>\n
