Chappell Roan has rowed back on her thoughts of Brigitte Bardot after learning they had differing views on life. For millions, Bardot was regarded as the definitive pin-up and was saddened by news this week that she had died on 28 December at the age of 91.<\/p>\n

The French model and film star<\/a> found global fame after starring in the 1957 film And God Created Woman, and enjoyed success as a musician too. Modern-day singer Chappell – real name Kayleigh Rose Amstutz,<\/a> 27 – was initially saddened by the news that trailblazer Bardot had died.<\/a><\/p>\n

Revealing that the French star had influenced her own music, the American star wrote in a social media tribute: “She was my inspiration for red wine supernova. Rest in peace Ms. Bardot.” However, Chappell soon found herself under attack from other social media users who were critical of Bardot’s views and controversial behaviours, which included being arrested for inciting racial hatred and denouncing homosexuals as “fairground freaks”, in her book, A Scream in the Silence, released in 2003.<\/p>\n

Reassessing her outlook, Chappell shared a further statement via Instagram<\/a> Stories, declaring: “Holy s**t I did not know all that insane s**t Ms. Bardot stood for obvs I do not condone this. Very disappointing to learn.”<\/p>\n

After enjoying huge fame as a film and music star, Bardot dropped out of the spotlight to become an animal rights activist – a role she continued up to her death. The star reportedly died following a brief illness and after undergoing surgery.<\/p>\n

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation said in a statement this week: “The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the passing of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation.”<\/p>\n

The statement added: “The Brigitte Bardot Foundation wishes to pay tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave up everything for a world<\/a> more respectful of animals. Her legacy remains, living through the actions and battles that the foundation pursues with the same passion and the same loyalty to her ideals.”<\/p>\n

The star is said to have been at home in Saint-Tropez when she was rushed to hospital in Toulon and later died. The star was married four times during her life – first to French screenwriter, film director, and producer Roger Vadim from 1952 until 1957, and then to French actor and artist Jacques Charrier from 1959 until 1962 – with whom she shared a son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, 65.<\/p>\n

Her third husband was German-born Swiss industrial heir and art collector Gunter Sachs, with whom she was wed from 1966 until 1969. And the star later found love with political advisor Bernard d’Ormale, whom she married in 1992.<\/p>\n

Throughout her career, Bardot was regarded as the greatest Bond girl that never was, having been invited to join the franchise to star in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. However, she turned down the role after accepting the chance to star opposite Sean Connery in the 1968 Western film Shalako – during which time it is reported she rebuffed the Scottish actor’s advances.<\/p>\n

A string of Hollywood stars paid tribute to Bardot following the news of her death this week. Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara shared a black and white image of the late star via her Instagram – accompanied by a single red rose emoji.<\/p>\n

While modelling superstar Christie Brinkley posted a video clip of the star, calling her a timeless icon of beauty and strength and sharing a quote from the late star that stated: “I am just a woman who has done whatever she feels like doing.”<\/p>\n

Actress Lindsay Lohan also paid tribute to the French icon, sharing a Vogue France tribute image marked ‘Brigitte Bardot 1934\u20132025,’ and adding prayer and dove emojis to the post. Other stars, including Kelly Rowland, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Zoe Salda\u00f1a, also posted tributes to the late star.<\/p>\n
