On occasion, his distribution, particularly with the ball at his feet, put Gerhard Struber’s side under pressure as he didn’t appear to quite replicate the control he managed against West Brom or Middlesbrough. He can certainly be better than he was against the Lions and has the chance to be so against Portsmouth on New Year’s Day.

READ MORE: Millwall vs Bristol City live: Struber makes two changes as Armstrong handed starting roleREAD MORE: Fally Mayulu return timeline set after injury rules Bristol City striker out of Boxing Day winZak Vyner – 5.5

Like most in red and white, Zak Vyner wasn’t quite at his best on Monday evening. The Bristol City defender should have done more for what was the winning goal as he seemed to get slightly caught between his marker, Max O’Leary and the ball before ultimately being unable to clear. In possession, he played some really smart passes, but should have done better with the free header he had in the second half.

(Image: Getty Images)Rob Dickie – 6

Bristol City’s vice-captain could have maybe done more for Millwall’s opener as his half-clearance landed at the feet of Camiel Neghil. Outside of that moment, he marshalled Mihailo Ivanović well through the majority of the game. As the game became more stretched, he may have dived in a little too quickly for what proved to be the winning goal, but that would be nitpicking.

Rob Atkinson (off for Neto Borges, 66’) – 6

On his first league start since November, Rob Atkinson seemed to be caught on the wrong side of the ball on a couple of occasions in the first half and was perhaps fortunate he recovered well. Arguably should have done better with his header deep in the opening period, but grew into the game after the break. On an otherwise frustrating night, it was good to see him return to the starting line-up.

Ross McCrorie – 6.5

For so much of Monday evening’s contest, Ross McCrorie was solid defensively for Bristol City and determined in possession. His pass for Adam Randell’s leveller in the second half was incredibly composed and deserved the assist that it got; however, it did feel as though the Scotsman’s judgement was wrong for Millwall’s second. Early in the move that proved to be the winner, McCrorie pushed forward to press and, in doing so, left an overload down his flank, which the Lions exploited.

Sign up for our City newsletter

Bristol City looking to build on last season’s play-off finish under Gerhard Struber and you won’t miss a beat with our free newsletter.

All the latest news, views, interviews, gossip and analysis concerning the Robins, delivered straight to your inbox.

It’s completely free and you can sign up HERE

Jason Knight – 6.5

Public enemy number one among the home fans at The Den, Jason Knight, was his usual lively self in the middle of the park for Bristol City. He helped the Robins claim back momentum after the Lions’ opener and showcased some smart footwork throughout proceedings. There was perhaps, at times, a reliance on the captain to make the difference, as he was occasionally faced with a wall of Millwall defenders and no one to pass to. He is, however, looking much more like his usual self.

Adam Randell – 7.5

Adam Randell’s performances since he arrived at Bristol City have been more than deserving of a goal or two, and while he has been made to wait for his first in red and white, his finish was excellent. He showed excellent composure to squeeze home after being picked out by Ross McCrorie and kept the Robins ticking in the spell that followed his strike. I think it would be fair to say the former Plymouth Argyle man didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.

Bristol City’s Adam Randell (right) celebrates scoring their side’s first goal of the game during the Sky Bet Championship match at The Den, London. The defender wasn’t afraid to push forward from the left wing-back position, but didn’t quite have the cutting edge his final ball needed. Having been moved to a deeper position following the introduction of Neto Borges, he was unfortunate to play a part in the home side’s second as his clearance got stuck underneath his feet. On a positive note, it was good to see him come through another full 90 minutes.

Scott Twine (off for Yu Hirakawa, 88’) – 6

One of the more lively players in Bristol City colours during the first half, Scott Twine linked play through the middle and attacking thirds well at The Den with some clever, intricate passes. It felt like a lot of what City did well in the first period saw him involved in some capacity. Twine faded slightly in the second half but still had a hand in Adam Randell’s goal. Hopefully, he can continue to meet the bar set over the remainder of the festive period.

Anis Mehmeti – 5.5

The Albanian international was once again heavily involved in most of what Bristol City did in an attacking sense, but like many others in red and white, he didn’t make enough of an impact in the opposition box. The chance that fell his way in the second half when he dragged a left-footed cross-come-shot wide of the post and ahead of the on-rushing runner almost summed up his evening: plenty of moments and promise, but just lacking that moment of magic needed to make a difference on the scoreline.

Bristol City Live on Whatsapp

Join Bristol City Live’s Whatsapp community for all the biggest Bristol City stories sent straight to your phone

Bristol City Live is now on WhatsApp and we want you to join our community.

Through the app, we’ll send the Bristol City news, live match coverage, team news, transfers, fixtures, analysis and more straight to your phone.

To join our community you need to already have WhatsApp. All you need to do is click this link and select ‘Join Community’.

No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Bristol Live team.

We also treat community members to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners.
