{"id":662897,"date":"2025-12-30T17:15:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T17:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/662897\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T17:15:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T17:15:18","slug":"eurostar-suspends-all-europe-trains-amid-peak-travel-season-london-paris-route-among-those-hit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/662897\/","title":{"rendered":"Eurostar suspends all Europe trains amid peak travel season, London-Paris route among those hit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Eurostar has suspended all train services in Europe amid peak travel season between Christmas and New Year, with the London-Paris route among those hit.<\/p>\n<p>     <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/EUROSTAR-FRANCE-POWER-9_1767103009716_1767103023213.JPG\" alt=\"People gather near a Eurostar train at Gare du Nord station, after Eurostar announced a power supply problem in the Channel Tunnel that links Britain and France, in Paris, France, December 30, 2025.(REUTERS)\" title=\"People gather near a Eurostar train at Gare du Nord station, after Eurostar announced a power supply problem in the Channel Tunnel that links Britain and France, in Paris, France, December 30, 2025.(REUTERS)\"\/>   People gather near a Eurostar train at Gare du Nord station, after Eurostar announced a power supply problem in the Channel Tunnel that links Britain and France, in Paris, France, December 30, 2025.(REUTERS)    <\/p>\n<p>The train services were suspended on Tuesday after a power supply issue in the Channel tunnel, thus sparking chaos, AFP news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a power supply problem in the Channel tunnel, followed by a shuttle train coming to a halt inside,\u201d a spokesperson for Eurostar said. \u201cAll journeys to and from London are suspended until further notice,\u201d AFP quoted the spokesperson as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Train traffic will progressively resume Tuesday afternoon, the Channel tunnel&#8217;s operator Getlink said.<\/p>\n<p>Following the postponement of train services between London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels, passengers were left stranded trying to look for alternative modes of commute and routes.<\/p>\n<p>Eurostar train services in Europe which are not using the Channel tunnel, including between Paris and Brussels, have also been cancelled, its website showed.<\/p>\n<p>Eurostar, which holds a monopoly on passenger services through the tunnel linking Britain and France, carried a record high 19.5 million passengers last year, according to the AFP report.<\/p>\n<p> Crowds of passengers at London, Paris stations<\/p>\n<p>Stranded travellers, many with suitcases, led to crowds at major stations, including London&#8217;s St Pancras station and Paris&#8217;s Gare du Nord, AFP reported.<\/p>\n<p>This came despite Eurostar, in an advisory earlier, urging passengers to postpone their journeys citing \u201cmajor disruption\u201d. Eurostar said the suspension were caused by a power problem in the tunnel and a \u201csubsequent failed Le Shuttle train.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the passengers said they were \u201cdisappointed\u201d. \u201cWe were going to do New Year&#8217;s Eve in Paris,\u201d Jessica, a 21-year-old business coordinator told AFP. \u201cWe are going to see if we can find another ticket. Otherwise we will stay in London,\u201d Jessica added.<\/p>\n<p>Another passenger, also looking to travel to Paris, had an AirBnB booked in the French capital until January 4 for her husband and four-year-old daughter. \u201cWe can&#8217;t find tickets for tomorrow. It has disrupted all our holiday.
