Kennedy<\/a>, has died at the age of 35, just weeks after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/jfk-donald-trump-health-and-human-services-b2870586.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcing her terminal cancer diagnosis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The JFK Library Foundation <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DS5cxd6E2p_\/\">announced<\/a> Schlossberg\u2019s death in a statement Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,\u201d the statement reads. The post was signed \u201cGeorge, Edwin and Josephine Moran, Ed, Caroline, Jack, Rose and Rory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schlossberg is survived by her husband, George Moran, their three-year-old son and their one-year-old daughter. She\u2019s also survived by her parents, Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, her brother Jack Schlossberg, and her sister Rose Schlossberg, who is married to Rory McAuliffe.<\/p>\n<p>Her cousin, Maria Shriver, also released a statement Tuesday honoring \u201csweet, beloved Tatiana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Tatiana-Schlossberg.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"The John F. She created a beautiful life with her extraordinary husband George, and children Eddie and Josie. She fought like a warrior. She was valiant, strong, courageous,\u201d Shriver <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mariashriver\/status\/2006128145393750112\">wrote on X<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose of us left behind will make sure Eddie and Josie know what a beautiful, courageous spirit their mother was and will always be. She takes after her extraordinary mother, Caroline,\u201d Shriver later added.<\/p>\n<p>Schlossberg revealed she had been diagnosed with a rare type of acute myeloid leukemia, a blood cancer, in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-affiliate=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=44681X1458326&amp;articleId=b2892365&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorker.com%2Fculture%2Fthe-weekend-essay%2Fa-battle-with-my-blood&amp;sref=\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/tatiana-schlossberg-kennedy-terminal-cancer-b2892365.html\">New Yorker<\/a> essay published on November 22, the 62nd anniversary of her grandfather\u2019s assassination.<\/p>\n<p>In the essay, she recounted her disbelief in her diagnosis, as the disease is mostly seen in older people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not\u2014could not\u2014believe that they were talking about me. I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn\u2019t sick. I didn\u2019t feel sick,\u201d Schlossberg wrote. <\/p>\n<p>Schlossberg was diagnosed shortly after giving birth to her daughter in May 2024. Her doctors noticed her white blood cell count was elevated just hours after she delivered her daughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone thought it was something to do with the pregnancy or the delivery. My first thought was that my kids, whose faces live permanently on the inside of my eyelids, wouldn\u2019t remember me,\u201d Schlossberg wrote. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy son might have a few memories, but he\u2019ll probably start confusing them with pictures he sees or stories he hears. I didn\u2019t ever really get to take care of my daughter\u2014I couldn\u2019t change her diaper or give her a bath or feed her, all because of the risk of infection after my transplants,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>In her essay, Schlossberg also criticized her cousin, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/jerome-adams-mrna-vaccine-kennedy-trump-b2803881.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr<\/a>., who took office in February after he was nominated by President Donald Trump. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watched from my hospital bed as Bobby, in the face of logic and common sense, was confirmed for the position, despite never having worked in medicine, public health, or the government,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>She decried his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/health\/rfk-jr-mrna-vaccine-experts-b2803053.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cuts to research funding<\/a>, particularly for \u201cmRNA vaccines, technology that could be used against certain cancers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/SEI279256476.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Tatianna Schlossberg, Jack Schlossberg and Caroline Kennedy meet with Prince William in 2022\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/><\/p>\n<p>open image in gallery<\/p>\n<p>Tatianna Schlossberg, Jack Schlossberg and Caroline Kennedy meet with Prince William in 2022 (AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the family have also criticized the Department of Health and Human Services leader, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/caroline-kennedy-letter-bombshells-rfk-jr-b2697235.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caroline Kennedy<\/a> and Jack Schlossberg, who announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/jack-schlossberg-congress-new-york-jfk-b2863516.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans to run for Congress as a Democrat in New York last month.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shriver, a journalist and the former first lady of California, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/maria-shriver-tatiana-schlossberg-cancer-essay-b2871266.html\">praised her cousin\u2019s New Yorker essay.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you can only read one thing today, please make\/take the time for this extraordinary piece of writing by my cousin Caroline\u2019s extraordinary daughter Tatiana,\u201d Shriver <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mariashriver\/status\/1992290891114152055\">wrote<\/a> last month. \u201cTatiana is a beautiful writer, journalist, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schlossberg was born on May 5, 1990, in New York City. Her <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/au.usembassy.gov\/embassy-consulates-canberra-ambassador\/\">mother<\/a>, the daughter of the 35th president and first lady Jackie Kennedy, has served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan and Australia. She published several stories in The Washington Post, including an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-solutions\/2020\/11\/18\/climate-change-cranberries-thanksgiving\/\">investigation<\/a> into the impacts of climate change on cranberry farmers.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Schlossberg also published Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don\u2019t Know You Have. <\/p>\n<p>The work earned her the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sej.org\/winners-sej-19th-annual-awards-reporting-environment#book\">Rachel Carson Environment Book Award.<\/a> The award\u2019s judges wrote that Schlossberg\u2019s readers \u201cwill find solace, humor and a route to feeling empowered with possibilities for positive change, rather than drained by an accumulation of bad news.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her New Yorker essay, Schlossberg said she has told her son about her love of writing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy son knows that I am a writer and that I write about our planet. Since I\u2019ve been sick, I remind him a lot, so that he will know that I was not just a sick person,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Schlossberg also revealed that, if she had not gotten sick, she would\u2019ve written a book \u201cabout the oceans\u2014their destruction, but also the possibilities they offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New York Governor Kathy Hochul honored Schlossberg in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy heart goes out to the Kennedy family. I will never forget the images of Caroline Kennedy as a child in the White House before she lost her father. To now lose her own daughter to this terrible disease is unspeakable.
