{"id":66382,"date":"2025-05-01T18:45:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-01T18:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/66382\/"},"modified":"2025-05-01T18:45:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T18:45:10","slug":"emergency-closure-to-last-a-month-on-busy-glasgow-city-centre-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/66382\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency closure to last a MONTH on busy Glasgow city centre street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A BUSY Glasgow city centre street is to remain closed for up to a month as emergency works get underway.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon Street is currently shut between Renfield Street and West Nile Street as Scottish Water teams carry out urgent sewer repairs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Aerial view of Gordon Street sewer repair in progress.\" height=\"540\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Scottish Water\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Gordon-St-Sewer-Repair-Before-Closure.jpg\" data-caption=\"Emergency works are underway on Glasgow's Gordon Street\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Gordon-St-Sewer-Repair-Before-Closure.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1<\/p>\n<p>Emergency works are underway on Glasgow&#8217;s Gordon StreetCredit: Scottish Water<\/p>\n<p>The work is expected to take around four weeks to complete, depending on ground conditions and the condition of the sewer once further excavation is underway.<\/p>\n<p>A diversion route is in place via Drury Lane, although for articulated lorries this is a left turn only onto West Nile Street.<\/p>\n<p>Scottish Water has also been given permission to suspend the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/public-transport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bus<\/a> gate on Union Street.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson said: &#8220;This emergency work is essential to repair a defective sewer connection and protect nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/money\/property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">properties<\/a> from internal flooding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We understand that closing a busy city centre street will cause disruption and we will do all we can to complete the repair safely and as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will remain in contact with affected businesses throughout and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding while this urgent work is carried out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Local businesses remain open as usual, with pedestrian access being maintained at all times.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, locals in a Scots town have blasted &#8220;pandemonium&#8221;
