Forecasters issued the yellow alert for snow and ice across the region on Friday.<\/p>\n

It comes as the country experienced the coldest night of winter so far, with a chilly -7 C recorded in Co Down\u2019s Katesbridge overnight.<\/p>\n

The Met Office said the yellow warning will come into force from midnight and last until 10am.<\/p>\n

They said the cold conditions will likely lead to icy stretches across many parts, with the warning in place across all six counties.<\/p>\n

There will also be some snowfall which could lead to travel disruption for those travelling during the morning.<\/p>\n

A Met Office spokesperson said: \u201cFollowing a spell of rain, sleet and hill snow on Thursday evening, icy stretches are likely to develop on untreated surfaces during the early hours of Friday.<\/p>\n

“There will also be some snow showers early on Friday, mainly in the north and this could lead to patchy accumulations of 1 or 2 cm snow.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes as people waking up on New Year\u2019s Eve experienced a chilly start to the morning with the final sunrise of 2025.<\/p>\n

While the early part of the day is expected to be dry across the country, there is a chance of some rain for those enjoying the celebrations later, with rain heading in to the northern coasts later.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the chances of seeing the final sunset of 2025 look remote, with cloud more widely expected to roll in across the day.<\/p>\n

It is also expected to remain cold throughout the day, with a maximum temperature of just 5 C.<\/p>\n

New Year\u2019s Day will bring a cloudy day with the occasional bright spells interspersed with a few showers.<\/p>\n

The Met Office said these will become wintry in the east towards the evening. It is also expected to be windy along the coasts with a maximum temperature of 5 C.<\/p>\n

A yellow warning for snow and ice has also bee issued across large parts of England and Wales between midnight and noon on January 2.<\/p>\n

It could see some areas blanketed in snow up to 5cm deep, especially on higher ground in parts of North Wales and north-west England.<\/p>\n

Northern Scotland has a warning in place between 6am on New Year\u2019s Day and the end of Friday.<\/p>\n
