{"id":664826,"date":"2025-12-31T14:13:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T14:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/664826\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T14:13:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T14:13:13","slug":"how-every-celtic-manager-has-fared-in-their-first-glasgow-derby-vs-rangers-since-2000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/664826\/","title":{"rendered":"How every Celtic manager has fared in their first Glasgow derby vs Rangers since 2000"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Wilfried Nancy faces the game of all games this weekend as Celtic face Rangers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is the third <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/glasgow-derby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow derby<\/a> of the season, with Celtic winning one and drawing the other, but the mood going into the game couldn\u2019t be further from happy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/match\/wilfried-nancy-claims-celtic-defeat-vs-motherwell-was-not-a-surprise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nancy sensationally claimed he wasn\u2019t surprised by the loss against Motherwell<\/a> as the Hoops lost further ground in their quest to dethrone Hearts from top spot in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/scottish-premiership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scottish Premiership<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rangers have looked far better under Danny Rohl than they ever did when Russell Martin was in charge, but losing to the Ibrox club is inexcusable.<\/p>\n<p>That first fixture is always daunting, but how did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/wilfried-nancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nancy\u2019s<\/a> predecessors get on? Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>   Martin O\u2019Neill \u2013 Celtic 6-2 Rangers, August 2000<\/p>\n<p>As far as first Glasgow derby games go, they don\u2019t get much better than this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/martin-oneill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Martin O\u2019Neill<\/a> was tasked with toppling a dominant Rangers side and did so in stylish fashion as the Hoops hammered their rivals.<\/p>\n<p>This was also the iconic game where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/henrik-larsson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henrik Larsson<\/a> pulled off an audacious chip in a game that fans won\u2019t ever forget.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon Strachan \u2013 Rangers 3-1 Celtic, August 2005<\/p>\n<p>Following the success of the O\u2019Neill era, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/gordon-strachan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gordon Strachan<\/a> was hoping he could keep that run going with his own version.<\/p>\n<p>That wasn\u2019t to be though as Celtic proved to be second best, with the writing seemingly already on the wall for the Scotsman after a 5-0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/champions-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Champions League<\/a> defeat against Artmedia Bratislava.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully he was able to recover and guide Celtic to the league title, but the loss was a sore one to take.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Mowbray \u2013 Rangers 2-1 Celtic, October 2009<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/tony-mowbray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tony Mowbray<\/a> was great as a player for Celtic, but couldn\u2019t quite transfer that to his brief time in the dugout.<\/p>\n<p>Mowbray had started strongly with five wins from six in domestic competitions and the loss at Ibrox was the first of his tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Things dropped off, though, as Mowbray took one point from the three games against Rangers before being dismissed in January.<\/p>\n<p>Neil Lennon \u2013 Celtic 2-1 Rangers, May 2010<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/neil-lennon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Neil Lennon<\/a> was tasked with replacing Mowbray for the remainder of the season but had to wait for his first game in the dugout against Rangers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-1192701327-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Neil Lennon and Scott Brown celebrate winning the League Cup with Celtic against Rangers\" class=\"wp-image-261052\" \/>Photo by Michael Steele\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The former midfielder enjoyed the perfect derby day result, though, as the Bhoys beat Rangers thanks to goals from Lee Naylor and Marc Antoine-Fortune.<\/p>\n<p>Lennon was given the job permanently off the back of that and enjoyed plenty more results like this.<\/p>\n<p>Ronny Deila \u2013 Celtic 2-0 Rangers, February 2015<\/p>\n<p>Unlike most managers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/ronny-deila\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ronny Deila<\/a> had the unique experience of facing a Rangers side languishing in the divisions below the Hoops.<\/p>\n<p>A Scottish League cup semi-final meeting presented him with the chance at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/hampden-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hampden Park<\/a> and the difference in quality showed.<\/p>\n<p>Kris Commons and Leigh Griffiths ensured that the Bhoys would be heading back to Hampden Park for the final.<\/p>\n<p>Brendan Rodgers \u2013 Celtic 5-1 Rangers, September 2016<\/p>\n<p>A five-star performance in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/brendan-rodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brendan Rodgers\u2019<\/a> side was the perfect way to introduce himself to the Celtic faithful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/moussa-dembele\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moussa Dembele<\/a> was the star of the show that afternoon and scored a perfect hat trick to send their rivals packing.<\/p>\n<p> How many Celtic players have scored a hat trick against Rangers? <\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"664\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-602263210-1024x664.jpg\" alt=\"Waving Moussa Dembele of Celtic takes away the match ball having scored 3 of the 5 goals during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park\" class=\"wp-image-271759\" \/>Photo by Steve  Welsh\/Getty Images     <\/p>\n<p> \ud83d\udc47 Join the debate; share your insight.
