Birmingham City are plotting an ambitious January transfer window as they try and fight their way up the Championship table.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Blues have ambitions of securing Premier League<\/a> football as quickly as possible, but they are currently languishing down in 15th in the Championship<\/a> after some inconsistent results to start the season.<\/p>\n

Birmingham\u2019s mediocre form has piled pressure on Chris Davies<\/a>, who needs to string together a strong run of results if he is to remove the scrutiny that is currently surrounding his position. <\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the Blues\u2019 Knighthead<\/a> ownership group are preparing to back the manager in the January window, and their transfer plans have now become clear right before their business can get underway.<\/p>\n

Football Insider<\/strong> exclusively revealed earlier in December that Birmingham want to strengthen in three areas<\/a> in the mid-season window. <\/p>\n

A new striker and a new central midfielder both featured on the Blues\u2019 winter shopping list, as well as the addition of a new option to fill the left-back role. <\/p>\n

However, the specifics of that three-prong shortlist have now changed somewhat with the window just hours away. <\/p>\n

Birmingham<\/a> are still keen to add a new frontman and a midfield option, but they are also now eyeing an addition to their centre-back group, according to The Telegraph<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Funds are set to be made available by Tom Wagner<\/a> and Co. for high-quality reinforcements to be brought in, and it appears that the spine of the team is the key area that will be strengthened. <\/p>\n

Centre-back addition to prompt Eiran Cashin recall at Brighton<\/p>\n

Birmingham have already opened talks for Patrick Roberts<\/a>, and that looks set to be just the beginning of what could be a hectic window at St Andrew\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The Blues\u2019 new desire to add another option at the heart of their defence is likely to have a telling impact elsewhere on their defensive group. <\/p>\n

Eiran Cashin arrived on a season-long loan from Brighton<\/a> in the summer, but that could potentially be cut short if a new addition is sourced as planned. <\/p>\n

The former Derby County<\/a> man has started just three games for the second city outfit as part of his loan spell, and a new arrival would only serve to force him even further down the pecking order. <\/p>\n
