Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>Gifting Joel Veltman the equaliser just past the hour mark, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hammers.news\/news\/nuno-singles-out-the-unsung-west-ham-hero-whos-big-big-help-cannot-be-ignored\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Areola has played a massive role<\/a> in West Ham\u2019s recent improvement when defending set-piece situations but this was the sort of mistake reminiscent of the late-Graham Potter era. <\/p>\n<p>Not to mention, the brief Mads Hermansen stint from August to September.<\/p>\n<p>So, with Areola out of the running, it was a more open field than usual when selecting the stand-out performer in claret and blue.<\/p>\n<p>West Ham United fans snub Jarrod Bowen in Brighton Man of the Match award<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hammers.news\/match-report\/west-ham-player-ratings-vs-brighton-jarrod-bowen-shines-2-10-ace-must-never-play-for-hammers-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lucas Paqueta scored one and assisted the other<\/a>, his first assist since April 2024. Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>   Bowen hails Ollie Scarles after fantastic London Stadium response<\/p>\n<p>This was no charity vote, either.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hammers.news\/match-report\/ollie-scarles-in-tears-but-nunos-response-is-a-credit-to-the-west-ham-boss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the sight of Scarles in tears was a painful one<\/a> in the aftermath of Saturday\u2019s 1-0 home defeat by Fulham. But, to quote one triumphant supporter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hammers.news\/match-report\/west-ham-fans-think-one-player-shut-the-haters-up-and-critics-should-apologise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scarles \u2018shut up his haters\u2019<\/a> on a night in which he excelled in all departments.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year-old made the most clearances and interceptions while also producing a team-high number of crosses and key passes.<\/p>\n<p>Scarles, lest we forget, is the club\u2019s reigning Young Player of the Year. After a difficult first half of the season, interrupted by injury, sidelined by the form of El Hadji Malick Diouf and capped by that Fulham error, this was a reminder as to why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hammers.news\/news\/special-west-ham-teenager-tipped-for-gareth-bale-like-evolution-hes-going-all-the-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some at West Ham feel there is something \u2018special\u2019<\/a> about the Bromley-born England Under-20 international.<\/p>\n<p>Captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hammers.news\/news\/jarrod-bowen-claims-west-ham-have-two-youngsters-with-way-more-ability-than-he-had\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jarrod Bowen could only dream of achieving what Scarles has done<\/a> before his 21st birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Bowen was still playing for Hull City in the second-tier at this stage of his career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that we can do is help them and support [the young players],\u201d the skipper told reporters at full-time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese players nowadays have way more confidence and way more ability than I ever did at that age! They are here on merit. They\u2019re not here just to make up the numbers. They\u2019re here because they deserve it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time they get their opportunity, it\u2019s about us helping them, but ultimately they just go out and do what they do in training and what they\u2019ve done for their younger sides. They make the transition look easy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got Ollie Scarles, Pottsy, that have come through the academy and they\u2019re first-team regulars now. So, it\u2019s a credit to them as people and how they want to work.
