The roadmap is framed as a sector-wide blueprint, positioning retailers at key points in the supply chain as central to cutting emissions upstream and downstream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFive years on, this ambition has not changed\u2014but the business context has,\u201d Dickinson said in the report\u2019s foreword. \u201cSince 2020, net zero has been buffeted by strong political, regulatory and financial headwinds. What was once a shared ambition is now debated in political, policy and regulatory arenas\u2014creating uncertainty for businesses and consumers alike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The review pairs updated emissions baselining with a progress check on 2025 milestones. The data shows where carbon sits; the milestone survey shows how little of it is being reduced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">The updated footprinting shows most emissions in product manufacturing, use and disposal\u2014not in stores\u2014and establishes a new baseline that appears 11 percent higher than 2019. Supplier data remains the sharpest gap. Member surveys cite the same issues across the board: supply-chain complexity and unclear policy, with financial pressures limiting low-carbon investment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">\u201cRetailers have demonstrated positive progress in decarbonizing their direct operations, yet the lack of measurable reduction across the value chain must serve as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/reality-check-supply-demand-challenge-152555787.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:reality check;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reality check<\/a> for the industry,\u201d Dickinson said. \u201cOur call to action is clear: to move from collective ambition to action, radical collaboration across the retail industry must start now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">The BRC reported <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/inditex-flights-rights-problem-activists-201133546.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:freight transparency;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">freight transparency<\/a> improvements, with around 80 percent of logistics providers sharing emissions data\u2014up from 50 percent last year. The uptick, per the BRC, suggests that reporting standards are beginning to take hold across transport partners, though coverage and consistency still vary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Take <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/ikea-parent-invest-billion-euros-110000690.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ikea;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ikea<\/a>, for example. The Swedish home furnishing giant uses the Global Logistics Emissions Council (<a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/chain-reaction-kristjan-lillemets-magaya-181500479.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:GLEC;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GLEC<\/a>) framework to standardize reporting across multiple transport modes, drawing on primary data rather than generic estimates. According to the BRC\u2019s estimates, such an approach sharpened accuracy: contributing to a 26 percent reduction in relative transport emissions since fiscal year 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Retailers are also piloting supplier programs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/sustainable-not-quite-says-asa-205252522.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Superdry;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Superdry<\/a>, for one, has reportedly shared support for 40,000 cotton farmers and has enabled organic cotton supply for its full annual need. Such initiatives, per the BRC, confirm that targeted investment can move the needle.
