OVER 120,000 travellers are expected to pass through Edinburgh Airport over the\u00a0next few days, as many celebrate the new year period.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This includes more than 60,000 that are expected to fly into Edinburgh for Hogmanay celebrations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Edinburgh kickstarted its three-day Hogmanay festivities yesterday (DEC 29) with a torchlight procession that started from the Meadows and ended at Castle Terrace, near Edinburgh Castle.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The capital is bracing itself for its traditional Hogmanay street party on Princes Street, which will be closed to trams and buses<\/a> from evening on Tuesday (30 DEC) until 10:00 on New Year\u2019s Day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"airport<\/a>The new year will bring flights from Edinburgh to destinations in Egypt.<\/p>\n

Edinburgh Airport also expects 64,000 people from\u00a0Scotland to head away for New Year\u2019s celebrations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A statement from the airport said that some travellers will be \u201ctoasting the Bells in sunnier destinations such as Spain and Dubai, while others seek out new experiences in China and the USA.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In total, 124,000 people are expected to pass through the airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some of the travellers are also expected to be international students returning home for the holiday period, although many have already returned prior to Christmas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland as well as\u00a0sixth busiest airport in the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: \u201cEdinburgh is world-renowned for its Hogmanay celebrations, and some would say we are the capital of New Year. We wholeheartedly agree with that and are excited to welcome 60-thousand people into the city ahead of the big night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also know there are others who want to head off for their own foreign celebrations \u2013 with some seeking a sunnier start to 2026 as they fly to Tenerife,\u00a0Dubai\u00a0and Doha, while others look to enjoy festive breaks and new experiences in Beijing, New York and even further afield.\u00a0<\/p>\n
