An investigation was launched following the death of ‘kind and caring’ Chloe Haynes<\/p>\n

An investigation into the death of a ‘kind and caring’ young woman at a hotel has been delayed due to another incident.<\/p>\n

Chloe Haynes was crushed to death by a wardrobe<\/a> in her room at the Britannia-run Adelphi hotel in Liverpool in September 2022. Chloe, from North Wales, was aged just 21 when she died.<\/p>\n

Following her death, Liverpool City Council’s Environmental Health department launched an investigation into the hotel. Sources told the Liverpool Echo<\/a> at the time that a criminal prosecution was a possibility.<\/p>\n

In September this year, a spokesperson for the council said the Environmental Health department was ‘very close’ to concluding its assessment on whether to prosecute the hotel’s owners over the death. However, it is now understood that the decision has been delayed due to a further probe launched by the department into another incident at the same hotel.<\/p>\n

This incident in August saw a three-year-old girl called Valencia Verdin injured and covered in blood when a cabinet fell on her and glass smashed on her head while she was staying at the hotel. Valencia’s mum, Danielle Kenny, said she had decided to stay overnight at the Ranelagh Street hotel after visiting Liverpool city centre from Widnes with her four children.<\/p>\n

She had booked a late check-out and was getting ready to bath her nine-month-old son, Valentino, while her two daughters, Valentina, two, and Valencia, three, were in the room with her, along with her 10-year-old son Hugo. But when Valencia opened the door of a corner cabinet, Danielle said it fell and landed on the young girl.<\/p>\n

The Environmental Health department has launched a probe into this incident. The council said previously the cabinet that fell on Valencia has been seized as part of its investigation.<\/p>\n

The team also instructed the hotel to carry out a check of all its rooms for similar furniture which was completed. Danielle, 35, said: “She’s tried to open the door on the bottom half of the unit and it’s toppled over.<\/p>\n

“She was trapped underneath it and the top half was glass, so her head has gone straight through the glass. I’ve jumped up as soon as I’ve heard the bang and her scream.<\/p>\n

“I’ve took the unit off her and her whole face and head was pouring with blood so I’ve quickly got a towel, put it over her head and I just ran out of the room with her and down to reception.” Valencia was rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where she received treatment for a 6cm cut and two 2cm cuts on her head before being discharged.<\/p>\n
