{"id":666553,"date":"2026-01-01T09:36:25","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T09:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/666553\/"},"modified":"2026-01-01T09:36:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-01T09:36:25","slug":"bristol-midwife-gets-new-year-honour-after-50-years-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/666553\/","title":{"rendered":"Bristol midwife gets New Year Honour after 50 years service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And the boss of 36 schools across Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset is knighted<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1_TCBR311225honoursBRI_02.jpg\" alt=\"Ann Remmers, as a student nurse at Guy\u2019s Hospital in London in the 1970s\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Ann Remmers, as a student nurse at Guy\u2019s Hospital in London in the 1970s(Image: Ann Remmers)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A Bristol midwife who dedicated her life to helping women have babies for 50 years has been awarded an OBE in the New Year\u2019s Honours list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Ann Remmers started work in the 1970s at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/southmead\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Southmead<\/a> Hospital in Bristol and last year was awarded the Chief Midwifery Officer Gold Award for 50 years of \u2018outstanding service and achievements in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">NHS<\/a> \u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">She rose up to become the clinical director at North Bristol NHS Trust and then for the whole of the south west and said she felt that the OBE she received was really also for all the people who she has worked alongside over six decades of maternity care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIt is such an honour to be recommended for an OBE for the work I have been fortunate to do as a midwife and clinical leader during my career in the NHS,\u201d she said. \u201cI am totally overwhelmed that I have been nominated for this award by my organisation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIt has been a joy to work in midwifery and perinatal services throughout my career. Her passion and commitment to improving life for mothers, babies and staff, means she is never afraid to embrace difficult issues head-on, leading professionals through change in an open and collaborative way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cAnn\u2019s contribution to midwifery after 50 years in the NHS is invaluable. She is highly regarded as a colleague, friend and champion of maternity and neonatal services. We are so grateful for her continued commitment to improving safety, equity and quality in maternity and neonatal services across the South West,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Meanwhile, the man who is ultimately in charge of 36 schools in Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset has been knighted in the King\u2019s New Year\u2019s Honours.
