{"id":666984,"date":"2026-01-01T14:25:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T14:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/666984\/"},"modified":"2026-01-01T14:25:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-01T14:25:15","slug":"terminally-ill-bearsden-dad-had-last-christmas-with-family-but-marriage-hopes-dashed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/666984\/","title":{"rendered":"Terminally ill Bearsden dad had &#8216;last Christmas&#8217; with family but marriage hopes dashed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>42-year-old DJ, Adrian O\u2019Grady, who has been told he is suffering from stage four colon cancer had to fly home to Glasgow from Bali without his fianc\u00e9e and daughter<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0_Screenshot-2026-01-01-103941.jpg\" alt=\"Adrian and his family enjoying what could be their 'last Christmas' together\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Adrian and his family enjoying what could be their &#8216;last Christmas&#8217; together (Image: DAILY RECORD)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A terminally ill dad is facing another <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowlive.co.uk\/all-about\/travel\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">visa<\/a> struggle after almost not being able to spend <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowlive.co.uk\/all-about\/glasgow-loves-christmas\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Christmas<\/a> with his fianc\u00e9e and four-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">After finding out he was suffering from stage four colon <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowlive.co.uk\/all-about\/cancer\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">cancer<\/a> he wants to get married to his fianc\u00e9e, 39-year-old Yanti, as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However, the couple are struggling to tie the knot as it is not permitted for her to go from a visitor visa, which she used to see Adrian at Christmas to a marriage visa, which is needed if you want to get married in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The couple cannot get married in Bali as they need to be the same religion to get married in Bali or Indonesia to which Adrian says: &#8220;Religion shouldn\u2019t matter or have anything to do with getting married.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Adrian told the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/terminally-ill-dad-reunited-family-36479434\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Daily Record<\/a> how he initially feared having to spend what could be his last Christmas apart from his loved ones as his four-year-old daughter, Chloe\u2019s, fast-track visa application remained \u201cstuck in limbo\u201d several weeks on.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0_Screenshot-2026-01-01-104014.jpg\" alt=\"Adrian reuniting with his family at the airport\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Adrian got to spend Christmas with his family.(Image: Tony Nicoletti\/Daily Record)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">But not long after, the toddlers tourist visa was rubber stamped by the Home Office and they enjoyed a \u201cperfect\u201d Christmas together surrounded by loved ones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Adrian said: \u201cWe want to get married here and have a proper wedding here, but it doesn\u2019t seem possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cConsidering everything that\u2019s happened, it\u2019s important to have my friends and family around us on such a special occasion. But we would need to change Yanti\u2019s visa from a visitor visa to a marriage one, which isn\u2019t allowed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIn Bali or Indonesia you must be the same religion to marry. Religion shouldn\u2019t matter or have anything to do with getting married.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cI also want to get Chloe a UK passport to give her the best possible opportunities in life. It\u2019s important to us that she has the right to study or work here when she\u2019s older. But after the way we\u2019ve been treated with her visa, we don\u2019t know when we will be able to make this happen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIf we can\u2019t get married here, we\u2019ll have to go back to Bali and I don\u2019t think we\u2019ll ever be back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Adrian, who is originally from Bearsden, DJs all over the world as AJ O\u2019Grady and splits his time between Bali and the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The family planned to travel to Scotland to spend the festive period with his family in Bridge of Weir on November 20 but their plans were thrown into crisis when Chloe\u2019s visitor visa application wasn\u2019t signed off along with mum Yanti\u2019s which forced Adrian to travel home alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The fast-track visa applications were made before Adrian\u2019s shock diagnosis but earlier this month, he received the devastating news that he had colon cancer which had already spread to his lung and is now terminal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A consultant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital sent a heartfelt letter to the Home Office to help reunite Adrian with his loved ones, writing that his \u201cprognosis is poor\u201d and asking that \u201cevery effort\u201d should be made for his daughter to be with him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">At the time, Adrian, who had been forced to abandon his family\u2019s rescheduled flights five times due to the visa delay, made a heartfelt plea for help, saying: \u201cI just want my daughter here and for the Home Office to approve her visa so she can spend her last Christmas with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The dad spent around \u00a310,000 trying to get his family to Scotland in time for Christmas before they finally got their wish with his fianc\u00e9e and daughter jetting in a week before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Adrian said his best chance at extending his life is to remain in Scotland for immediate treatment despite his wish to keep up work commitments in Bali and Australia and he is embarking on surgery and assessing treatment options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He said: \u201cYour health first is priority number one. Without your health you have nothing.
