Leeds United boss Daniel Farke admitted his side had to be \u201cstubborn\u201d in order to claim a hard-fought point against Liverpool at Anfield.<\/p>\n

The Reds began 2026 in disappointing fashion as they were held to a draw for the second time in just under a month by Leeds. Virgil van Dijk<\/a> and Hugo Ekitike<\/a> both went close to scoring for the hosts, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a strike disallowed for the visitors as it ended goalless.<\/p>\n

Ekitike also felt he should have been awarded a penalty after being held back by Jaka Bijol during the first half<\/a>, but Liverpool ultimately didn\u2019t do enough to claim all three points.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a big opportunity missed for the Reds, who failed to capitalize on Chelsea and Manchester United dropping points earlier this week in the race for the top four.<\/p>\n

Leeds, though, were clearly delighted with taking a second point off the reigning Premier League<\/a> champions this season, with Farke hailing his side\u2019s efforts after the game.<\/p>\n

“It was the reigning champions back in their top shape,\u201d Farke told Sky Sports. \u201cAlso, you could feel the New Year’s Day special atmosphere in the stadium.<\/p>\n

“They were on it, and we needed to show lots of resilience, stubborn and structured.<\/p>\n

“We had a good start to this game, but of course, there was many periods we had to suffer and we had to dig in. Liverpool had lots of possession, shots as well, but not clear-cut chances.<\/p>\n

“I am very happy with the clean sheet and the point and the mentality the lads showed today. A great point and a really good evening for us.<\/p>\n
