Pete Doherty<\/a> has been performing a cover of The Smiths<\/a> classics \u2018Panic\u2019 and \u2018How Soon Is Now?\u2019 on his 2025 European tour featuring the iconic drummer Mike Joyce. Check out footage below.<\/p>\n

As announced last month<\/a>, the legendary sticksman has been behind the kit as an \u201cextra special guest\u201d for select dates of The Libertines<\/a> and Babyshambles<\/a> man\u2019s UK and European tour in support of his upcoming album\u00a0\u2018Felt Better Alive\u2019.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

While on the continent, Doherty and co have performing of The Smiths\u2019 1986 single \u2018Panic\u2019 as a closer, while one show saw the band play a segment of the 1984 classic \u2018How Soon Is Now\u2019 spliced with \u2018The Last Of The English Roses\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Joyce is scheduled to perform with Doherty at\u00a0his show at The Great Escape in Brighton next month<\/a>, during his slots at Port Talbot\u2019s In It Together Festival, Bolesworth\u2019s Together Again Festival, Southend\u2019s Lazydays Festival, Hitchin Priory, East Brighton Park, and at other concerts in Europe. Last year saw Joyce talk exclusive to NME about ending his decades-long feud with\u00a0Johnny Marr,<\/a> as well as the recent reunion row and plans for a mural in memory of late bassist Andy Rourke.<\/p>\n

Doherty has been a lifelong and vocal fan of The Smiths, with Morrissey and co particularly proving an influence on 2022\u2019s \u2018The Fantasy Life of Poetry & Crime<\/a>\u2019 \u2013 his collaborative album with Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Lo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Due for release on May 16, Doherty\u2019s fifth solo album \u2018Felt Better Alive\u2019 is said to deal heavily with hope over mortality and the passage of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere can be something uplifting about resignation, but at the same time you\u2019re not just sat at home moping and singing these things to yourself,\u201d Doherty recently told NME of the album\u2019s character<\/a>. \u201cYou\u2019re still going out there and singing them. I think there\u2019s enough melancholy in this record to fill a good-sized jerry can. The idea is to splash it on the audience and see if it ignites or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

He added: \u201c[The songs] all just sit well together. They were all written around the same time; around the time I was working on The Libertines\u2019 new album [\u2018All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade<\/a>\u2019, 2024] but they didn\u2019t seem right for it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not that they were rejected by the band, but in order for it to be a Libertines song, it has to be really me and Carl [Barat<\/a>]. These are songs that are me, really.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Libertines will also be touring throughout 2025, including a headline show at London\u2019s Gunnersbury Park<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday August 9.\u00a0Visit here<\/a>\u00a0for tickets and more information.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Doherty has also teased that a Babyshambles reunion \u201cis on the cards\u201d for 2025, <\/a>after a few members of the band got together on stage again<\/a> back in March.<\/p>\n
