The film director George Lucas, whose extensive art collection will be housed in the new $1bn museum, has called the 300,000 sq. ft building \u201ca temple to the people\u2019s art\u201d. The artist <a class=\"transition-all duration-default shadow-internalLink hover:text-red-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theartnewspaper.com\/keywords\/refik-anadol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Refik Anadol<\/a>\u2019s new museum, <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-red-1\" href=\"https:\/\/dataland.art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dataland<\/a>, will become the first in the world devoted to art created with the aid of artificial intelligence. Joining them in east London, on a riverbank by the 2012 Olympic Park, is V&amp;A East. Its aim, says the V&amp;A\u2019s overall director Tristram Hunt, is to open up the museum\u2019s vast collections of applied and decorative arts \u201cin new ways to audiences which have historically been underserved by major cultural institutions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">V&amp;A East will feature more than 500 objects, including art, architecture, design, performance and fashion. Visitors will be welcomed by a monumental sculpture by Thomas J. Scheduled to open on 6 June, the <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-red-1\" href=\"https:\/\/crystalbridges.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art<\/a>\u2019s long-awaited expansion will add 114,000 sq. ft of galleries, studios, caf\u00e9s and event spaces. The expansion, which was first announced in 2021 and began the following year, will open a month before the 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence\u2014one of a plethora of events planned throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The addition was designed by Safdie Architects, the same firm that built the original building in 2011.
