Josh Windass is surely now on the verge of rejoining Rangers in the early stages of the January transfer window.<\/strong><\/p>\n The Wrexham star worked with Danny Rohl<\/a> during their time together at Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>, and the German is keen to bring him to Ibrox in the mid-season window. <\/p>\n Windass has emerged as a target for Rangers<\/a> in recent weeks, as they bid to bolster the firepower in their squad ahead of the second half of the campaign. <\/p>\n The 31-year-old has been a key player for Wrexham<\/a> so far this season, and eyebrows have rightly been raised in the aftermath of their 2-0 win away at Blackburn Rovers on Thursday.<\/p>\n Windass has heaped praise on Rangers<\/a> as a club on several occasions in recent years, and he could now be nearing a sensational return to his old stomping ground.<\/p>\n The Englishman is enjoying an excellent campaign for Wrexham on their return to the Championship<\/a>, as he has 10 goal contributions from his opening 21 league games so far this term. <\/p>\n Windass\u2019 stats in the Championship in 2025-26, ranked against Wrexham teammates (Fotmob).<\/p>\n With that in mind, eyebrows were unsurprisingly raised when manager Phil Parkinson opted to leave him out of the matchday squad for the trip to Ewood Park. <\/p>\n MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES<\/p>\n Windass<\/a> hasn\u2019t been outside the 18 since way back in the middle of September, and had started in all four of Wrexham\u2019s previous games prior to Thursday. <\/p>\n That is surely a telltale sign that a move to Rangers<\/a> is a distinct possibility in the coming days, as Parkinson would have no need to weaken his team in that matter unless an exit is in the pipeline. <\/p>\n Injury is another possibility, but with Windass\u2019 impressive availability record in the last few campaigns, it seems far more likely that his head may have been turned instead.<\/p>\n Rangers fans unjustified in their reaction to Windass links<\/p>\n Rangers fans were seething when the Windass links emerged<\/a>, but their reaction towards the potential signing was certainly unjustified given the impact that he had during his previous stint. <\/p>\n The forward notched 19 goal contributions in the Premiership during the 2017-18 campaign, and he has since matured as a player and has begun to produce those kinds of numbers with far greater consistency.<\/p>\n He has become an increasingly reliable source of creativity in the English Championship, and perhaps most importantly, he knows exactly what Rohl wants and expects from his players. <\/p>\n The likes of Youssef Chermiti<\/a> and Bojan Miovski<\/a> are not showing enough consistency to fire Rangers into the title race, and as a result, a new attacker is a clear and obvious requirement.<\/p>\n Rohl and Windass enjoyed a hugely successful relationship during their time together at Sheffield Wednesday, and Rangers fans should perhaps be a little bit more
