Business for all titles yesterday was +69% over New Year\u2019s Eve when business, of course, recessed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t20th Century Studios\u2019 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/avatar-fire-and-ash\/\" id=\"auto-tag_avatar-fire-and-ash\" data-tag=\"avatar-fire-and-ash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Avatar: Fire and Ash<\/a> <\/strong>cashed in <strong>$15.7M<\/strong>, +94% from New Year\u2019s Eve. By comparison, Avatar: Way of Water made $24.5M on New Year\u2019s Day 2023, while the original Avatar rang up $25.2M back on Jan. 1, 2010. Last year, the Disney prequel Mufasa led all titles on New Year\u2019s Day with $10.3M. Running cume for Fire and Ash in U.S.\/Canada stands at <strong>$266M<\/strong>. Global stands at <strong>$935M<\/strong> after a $53M worldwide New Year\u2019s Day take with $1 billion running cume imminent. At $121.8M, China reps 13% of Fire and Ash\u2018s current haul. Of course, the James Cameron movie will rule again in its third go-round, but there\u2019s some heat gaining in Paramount\u2019s monkey-gone-wild genre movie, Primate on Jan. 9; horror always a good genre to roll the dice on in early January. Way of Water\u2018s New Year\u2019s Eve total was $18M, while the original Avatar grossed $14.7M on that day.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn the U.S. and Canada, New Year\u2019s Eve always takes an ease before spiking today, which is similar trajectory to business on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. As such, all movies on New Year\u2019s Eve grossed around <strong>$28.7M<\/strong>, off 38% from Tuesday\u2019s estimated $46.4M.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRemember, the money made by Stranger Things: Finale, which began Thursday at 5 p.m. ET and runs through today, is concession cash, not box office money. All we know is that two days before opening, <a data-id=\"1236658345\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/stranger-things-finale-theatrical-release-locations-added-1236658345\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1.1 million seats were sold<\/a> at 620-plus theaters stateside, which is 700,000 shy of the 1.7M tickets that Sony\/Crunchyroll\u2019s Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle had in the bank the Monday before its opening Friday (why that comp?
