Northern Ireland international Paul Smyth has been the subject of abuse on social media<\/p>\n

Queens Park Rangers have slammed the \u201cdisgusting abuse\u201d of Northern Ireland winger Paul Smyth and say they hope to ban the perpetrator.<\/p>\n

Smyth and his family were subjected to abuse on Instagram.<\/p>\n

The Belfast man returned to the club from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2023 and signed a contract extension with the Hoops earlier this week.<\/p>\n

The Championship club stated: \u201cQueens Park Rangers Football Club completely condemns the disgusting abuse Paul Smyth and his family have been subjected to on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working closely with The EFL and the social media platform as we look to identify the individual concerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cShould we be successful, the perpetrator will be banned from MATRADE Loftus Road for life.<\/p>\n

\u201cSadly, violent verbal and social media abuse of players and staff has increased in football in recent years which does nothing other than negatively impact a club\u2019s chances of success.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone is grateful for the support being shown to Paul and his family by genuine fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Northern Ireland\u2019s official account replied: \u201cNo one should have to deal with that disgusting abuse on social media or anywhere else.
