{"id":66997,"date":"2025-05-02T00:12:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T00:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/66997\/"},"modified":"2025-05-02T00:12:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T00:12:11","slug":"bugonia-release-date-shifts-into-halloween-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/66997\/","title":{"rendered":"Bugonia Release Date Shifts Into Halloween 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Focus Features announced today that <strong>Bugonia<\/strong>, the latest film from <a href=\"https:\/\/bloody-disgusting.com\/reviews\/3791495\/poor-things-review-yorgos-lanthimos-frankenstein-like-tale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poor Things<\/a> director <strong>Yorgos Lanthimos<\/strong>, has been bumped from its November release date in favor of Halloween.<\/p>\n<p>Bugonia will receive a special limited engagement\u00a0on <strong>October 24<\/strong>, ahead of a wide expansion theatrically on <strong>October 31, 2025<\/strong>. Bugonia was initially slated for November 7 release.<\/p>\n<p>The weeklong cinematic event will feature screenings of the film, which was shot in VistaVision, at select locations in New York and Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>The film follows \u201ctwo conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Planet Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While that may sound more conspiracy thriller, Bugonia is an English-language remake of 2003\u2019s Korean genre-bender\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bloody-disgusting.com\/tag\/save-the-green-planet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Save the Green Planet!,<\/a> an off-beat, black comedy-sci-fi mashup written and directed by Jang Joon-Hwan. It\u2019s full of shocking moments and unexpected twists, but it\u2019s also a darkly funny movie that suits Lanthimos\u2019 style well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma Stone <\/strong>(Poor Things)<strong>, Jesse Plemons <\/strong>(Civil War, Antlers)<strong>, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias <\/strong>(Let\u2019s Start a Cult)<strong>,<\/strong> and <strong>Alicia Silverstone<\/strong> (The Lodge) star in Bugonia.\u00a0Lanthimos directs from a screenplay by <strong>Will Tracy<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/bloody-disgusting.com\/reviews\/3731205\/the-menu-tiff-review-this-culinary-horror-comedy-serves-up-sophisticated-stylish-but-unsatiating-satire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Menu<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ari Aster<\/strong>\u00a0(Hereditary, Midsommar) produces along with Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Miky Lee, Jerry Kyoungboum Ko, Lanthimos, Stone, and Lars Knudsen.<\/p>\n<p>Producers Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen previously said in a statement, \u201cSwinging with youthful abandon between white-knuckle suspense, absurd slapstick, grim horror and a deeply felt (and earned) sense of tragedy,\u00a0Save The Green Planet!\u00a0is one of the most remarkable films to come out of South Korea \u2013 among this recent wave or\u00a0any\u00a0wave, for that matter. When we heard that director Jang was passionate about revisiting this iconic work, bringing it to the US and updating it to reflect the mess of the world today (which feels even more ripe for this kind of apocalyptic skewering than when the film was first released), we leapt at the chance to be a part of it.
