(WKYT) &#8211; The London City Council said the city is facing an \u201cimpending fiscal emergency\u201d in a new court filing defending budget cuts that were blocked by a judge this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/2025\/12\/31\/judge-temporarily-blocks-london-ordinances-that-could-cut-city-jobs-after-87-employees-file-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/2025\/12\/31\/judge-temporarily-blocks-london-ordinances-that-could-cut-city-jobs-after-87-employees-file-lawsuit\/\">A judge issued a restraining order<\/a> stopping the council\u2019s amended budget from going into effect. The order came after a group of city employees filed a lawsuit against the council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The council\u2019s amended budget included cuts to many city departments, including the fire department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In Friday\u2019s response to the restraining order, the council said departments are overstaffed for the size of London.
