(WKBT) &#8212; Residents\u00a0and businesses in Onalaska now have access to some of the fastest internet speeds available in Wisconsin after TDS Telecommunications officially designated the city as a &#8220;Fiber-Fast Community&#8221; on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>At a ceremony held at Great River Landing, TDS representatives unveiled the completion of their comprehensive fiber optic network project, which brings unprecedented internet speeds to the community \u2013 up to 8 Gigabits per second for residential homes and 10 Gigabits for local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The high-speed internet, this is another option, so there&#8217;s competition in town so it will help with the pricing,&#8221; said Rick Niemeier, City Administrator for the City of Onalaska. &#8220;But overall, it will provide the highest internet speed that everybody needs nowadays.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The infrastructure project was substantial, deploying 120 miles of cutting-edge fiber optic lines throughout Onalaska.<\/p>\n<p>This extensive network now connects nearly 8,500 locations across the community, representing a significant technological upgrade for the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bCOPYRIGHT 2025 BY NEWS 8 NOW\/NEWS 8000.
