{"id":670578,"date":"2026-01-03T06:07:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T06:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/670578\/"},"modified":"2026-01-03T06:07:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T06:07:23","slug":"major-facility-coming-to-scarborough-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/670578\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Facility Coming To Scarborough Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/69553d23defaf.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            The construction of a large three-storey building at Scarborough Hospital has been approved alongside a RAAC-affected building\u2019s demolition.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\u200bScarborough Hospital\u2019s \u2018unsafe\u2019 pathology building will be demolished and replaced with a new building following the approval of plans by North Yorkshire Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe \u201cincreasingly unsafe, inefficient, and unsustainable\u201d building at the hospital serving pathology and ophthalmology services is one of several buildings on the estate affected by reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/69553d251e5ca.jpg\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe replacement building\u2019s ground floor laboratory will operate a 24\/7 service and include clinical biochemistry, haematology, blood transfusion, point of care testing, and molecular testing, as well as providing associated office space, and seminar and staff rooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe first floor will offer ophthalmology and outpatient services and comprise a series of consultation and treatment rooms, office space, and other ancillary uses. The second floor will provide largely internal plant space with some external plant screening.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/69553d25df95b.png\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u200bA solar panel array will also be installed on the roof of the three-storey, 2,600 square metre building.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bNo objections were raised by Scarborough Town Council, Yorkshire Water, or the Highway Authority.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe site for the new building is vacant and previously accommodated a construction site compound and prior to its relocation, the helipad.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/69553d2473e76.jpg\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u200bCouncil officers said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAs indicated within the supporting information, no alternative site \u2013 namely, York Hospital \u2013 can accommodate the relocation of services at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u200b\u200bThe demolition of a link bridge connecting the now defunct pathology building to the northern wing of Scarborough Hospital, which forms part of the same scheme, was recently given the go-ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u200bAs the new building would enable the decanting of existing hospital services, there would be no increase in staff, patients, visitors, or traffic to the hospital site, the\u200b York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/69553d2457fce.jpg\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u200bNorth Yorkshire Council concluded: \u201cThe proposal represents a sustainable development providing enhanced health care facilities within the existing hospital estate.
