Forecasters say areas in north and west Wales will be the coldest while the south and east will be drier with maximum temperatures of 5 \u00b0C. As much as 8cm of snow may fall in higher areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Parts of Wales from from the Llyn Peninsular down to St David&#8217;s could see snow and sleet with temperature plunging to -3\u00b0C in some areas and highs of 5C as Arctic air brings a prolonged spell of very cold <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/wales-weather\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">weather<\/a> for the start of January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Met Office warns that continuing wintry showers in the west will bring the chance of icy patches on untreated surfaces. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=aa0abd38-0db5-4492-99f3-e73baecff682&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"[object Object]Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">signing up to our daily newsletter here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A warning for snow and ice comes into force on Sunday afternoon for a large stretch of north Wales and will be in place until Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Met Office warned: &#8220;Snow and ice has the potential to cause disruption to travel in places from Sunday evening through to Monday morning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A yellow warning for snow and ice will remain in place until 12pm on Saturday and covers an area stretching right across Wales from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/anglesey\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Anglesey<\/a> in the north to across the west and to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/blaenau-gwent\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Blaenau Gwent<\/a> in the south. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/cardiff\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Cardiff<\/a> and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/swansea\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Swansea<\/a> are also covered by the warning.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/2_AWR_MAI_Sat8am-weather_020126JPG.jpg\" alt=\"A weather map\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>At 8am some people will wake to snow flurries <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Met Office has warned there could be some travel disruption. As the weekend continues there will be wintry showers in the west bringing the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It will be drier in the east with plenty of sunshine. Still cold, particularly with the ongoing breeze.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/2_AWR_MAI_Sat7am-weather_020126JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Met Office  weather map \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Met Office  weather map showing snow for some areas at 7am on Saturday<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The outlook for Sunday and Monday is similar, Wales will be cold but largely dry with winter sunshine by day and frost by night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The week will start cold but it will be cloudier on Tuesday with some rain and hill snow possible, say forecaster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Chief Met Office forecaster, Neil Armstrong, said: &#8220;With Arctic air now covering most of the UK very cold weather will continue through the weekend, with minus double figures overnight in places and daytime temperatures struggling to rise above 0\u00b0C for some.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;It looks like this cold spell could last well into next week and wintry hazards will continue with more weather warnings likely.
