The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says around 674,000 homes in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will benefit after Arctic air caused temperatures to plummet in recent days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Under the scheme, households receive \u00a325 for every seven-day period when temperatures drop to zero degrees Celsius or below. Residents in affected areas could see the money land in their accounts within days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The scheme was put into effect on January 1 and runs until 31 March, helping households cover extra heating costs during the coldest months of the year. <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">For the biggest stories in Wales first, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=aa0abd38-0db5-4492-99f3-e73baecff682&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">sign up to our daily newsletter<\/a> here<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Indeed,<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/wales-news\/met-office-issues-four-day-33154778\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\"> Wales is now under a yellow warning for snow and ice <\/a>until Monday, January 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">According to the Met Office, snow showers are expected across the country, with the heaviest flurries potentially leaving a few centimetres of snow on the ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Some inland and higher-altitude areas could see up to 8cm of snow, and residents are being warned to expect travel disruption during the wintry conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Am I eligible?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Cold Weather Payment is aimed at households most vulnerable to freezing temperatures, as detailed on the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cold-weather-payment\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">YouGov website<\/a>. You may be eligible if you receive:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Pension Credit<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Income Support<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Income-based Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance (JSA)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Universal Credit<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Eligibility rules vary slightly depending on the benefit:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Pension Credit: Most recipients qualify automatically.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Income Support or JSA: Payments usually go to those with a disability or pensioner premium, a child under 5, or a disabled child.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">ESA: Most in a work-related activity or support group qualify; others may qualify if they have a disability premium, a child under 5, or a disabled child.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Universal Credit: Payments are usually for households where you or your partner are not employed or \u201cgainfully self-employed\u201d and you have a child under 5, a disabled child, or a health condition limiting your ability to work.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">SMI: Payments are available if you receive SMI and meet any of the conditions above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cold Weather Payments are not available in Scotland, where eligible households may receive an annual Winter Heating Payment instead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">If you&#8217;re eligible, the government website states that you do not need to apply &#8211; payments are made automatically. However, you may need to notify Jobcentre Plus if you have a new baby or a child under five moves in.
