{"id":671533,"date":"2026-01-03T16:43:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T16:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/671533\/"},"modified":"2026-01-03T16:43:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T16:43:13","slug":"roy-keane-golf-rant-sparks-ian-wright-walkout-ahead-of-rory-mcilroy-appearance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/671533\/","title":{"rendered":"Roy Keane golf rant sparks Ian Wright walkout ahead of Rory McIlroy appearance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ian Wright had seen enough \u2014 and he was not sticking around for Roy Keane\u2019s latest rant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Arsenal legend stunned viewers by walking off set after Keane launched into a brutal takedown of golf, just moments before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/rory-mcilroy\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"af3de653-62db-4df6-b6c6-18281f91c1cb\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Rory McIlroy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rory McIlroy<\/a> was due to appear on The Overlap.<\/p>\n<p>With Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Jill Scott looking on, the chat took a sharp left turn when the conversation drifted towards the fairways \u2014 and Keane wasted no time swinging the axe.<\/p>\n<p>The former Manchester United skipper boldly declared that golf \u201clooks easy\u201d, mocking the way elite players are cheered for knocking in short putts.<\/p>\n<p>Wright, a passionate golfer, instantly smelled danger.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>He warned Keane he wanted no part of the debate \u2014 but Keane kept digging, and digging, and digging.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, Wright hit breaking point.<\/p>\n<p>The 62-year-old couldn\u2019t believe what he was hearing\u2026 and simply walked out.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on The Overlap, Keane kicked things off by saying: \u201cI don\u2019t play golf but it looks easy. I have to say. You just get it in the hole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright immediately shut it down: \u201cI am not going into this..\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>But Keane wasn\u2019t done.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He doubled down with: \u201cThe best players in the world. The hole is there and I am here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am one of the best in the world and I get it in the hole and everybody applauds it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are just putting it in the hole. I am 100 per cent serious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was enough. <strong>Watch what happened in the video at the bottom of the page.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Moments later, McIlroy finally joined the table \u2014 and the room erupted.<\/p>\n<p>Keane greeted the five-time major winner and grand slam champion with a handshake and a hug, telling him: \u201cNice to see you, good to see you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy, clearly aware of what he was walking into, fired straight back: \u201cI am very ready for Roy.
