If there\u2019s ever a time to binge some comforting TV shows, the weekend after New Year\u2019s Eve<\/a> is the period to do it.<\/p>\n It\u2019s nearly time to take the Christmas tree down<\/a> (or maybe you\u2019ve already done it) and face the real world \u2013 scary stuff.<\/p>\n But before Monday rolls around there\u2019s still space for a little more rest and relaxation to help you recharge for the weeks and months ahead.<\/p>\n While the New Year puts emphasis on things that are fresh and new, you can\u2019t beat indulging in an old favourite. <\/p>\n For some, their ultimate comfort watch<\/a> was taken from them after Netflix<\/a> removed Friends from the streamer. <\/p>\n So here are five other shows might fill that Central Perk-shaped hole. <\/p>\n \t\t We asked\u00a0Metro\u00a0<\/strong>readers to share their ultimate comfort watches to binge while recovering from New Year\u2019s this weekend. <\/p>\n From late 90s sitcoms to James Cordon and Ruth Jones<\/a>\u2019 smash hit, here is the telly that came recommended.<\/p>\n Peep Show<\/p>\n Ever wanted to hear the internal monologue of some of your funniest friends? Well, Peep Show, recommended by Metro<\/strong> reader Emma Love, will give you just that.<\/p>\n \t\t The series, which ended in 2015, sees two awkward best friends navigate life from their flat in Croydon<\/a>, South London<\/a>.<\/p>\n Their dry comedy and wit will leaving you howling, with performances from David Mitchell, Robert Webb<\/a> and Olivia Colman.<\/p>\n Kaushik Roy on Google called it \u2018the greatest comedy show ever made for the television\u2019. <\/p>\n Matt Moggy gave it a similar accolade \u2018for properly expressing British humour\u2019.<\/p>\n The cast recently reunited<\/a> for a special episode of Celebrity Bake Off, as they attempted to bake Christmas turkey pies in a tricky technical challenge.<\/p>\n Peep Show is available to watch on Channel 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n Gavin and Stacey<\/p>\n Gavin and Stacey makes for a fantastic comfort watch \u2013 at least Metro <\/strong>reader Pem Shell certainly thinks so. <\/p>\n \t\t After a few episodes you\u2019ll feel like you\u2019re part of the big blended family that welcomes in characters like Smithy (James Cordon<\/a>) and Nessa (Ruth Jones) with open arms.<\/p>\n The three seasons follow the relationship between Matthew Horne\u2019s character (Gavin) and Joanna Page\u2019s (Stacey), who start dating after meeting down the phone at work. <\/p>\n Last Christmas a whopping 19million<\/a> watched the tear-jerking finale, but still, we never found out what happened on the fishing trip\u2026<\/p>\n Coffeeguy 66 from Google has \u2018watched every episode a good 4 or 5 times plus the Christmas specials\u2019, and YSLR said they \u2018fell in love with it from the first episode.\u2019<\/p>\n Gavin and Stacey is available to watch on BBC iPlayer. <\/strong><\/p>\n Dinnerladies<\/p>\n We\u2019re going back a few years now with Dinner Ladies, recommended by Metro<\/strong> reader Clive James.<\/p>\n \t\t He called it \u2018proper pick-me-up comedy\u2019, making it perfect for those feeling a little sluggish after a long festive period. <\/p>\n This Manchester<\/a>-based comedy is the incredible work of the late Victoria Wood.<\/p>\n Set in a factory canteen and starring Maxine Peak and Julie Walters, these working class women discuss everything from marriages to mashed potato in dialogue that\u2019ll split your sides from laughing.<\/p>\n \u2018Every line is a scream\u2019, Barbara Serres on Google said. <\/p>\n JanMike9 thought similar, writing: \u2018Magical casting, rapid-fire, intelligent, genuinely funny gags, ridiculous situations, and pathos running under it all.\u2019<\/p>\n Dinnerladies is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n Still Game<\/p>\n Recommended by Metro<\/strong> reader Dan Trafford is Still Game.<\/p>\n \t\t This Scottish BBC sitcom is centred around two OAP\u2019s, Jack (Ford Kiernan) and Victor (Greg Hemphill), who love nothing more than to moan about the present and reminisce on the past.<\/p>\n Early seasons came out just after the millennium and it was once christened \u2018Last of the Summer Whisky\u2019 \u2013 the show revolves around The Clansman pub, where lots of the banter takes place.<\/p>\n Michael Meldrum on Google reviews calls it \u2018one of my all time favourites\u2019, while Aanc Build said they \u2018binge watched the whole 9 series\u2019 and \u2018loved every one of the episodes.\u2019 <\/p>\n Still Game is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n The Big Bang Theory<\/p>\n Metro <\/strong>reader Jonathan Lee-Smith suggested The Big Bang theory to see you through the weekend.<\/p>\n \t\t Fans were up in arms when they found out it had been removed from Netflix, but luckily there\u2019s other places you can watch. <\/p>\n You might remember the endless repeats on E4, or maybe you were hooked when it was added to the streamer, but there\u2019s no denying this is a great nostalgic watch.<\/p>\n It centres on the lives of two wonderfully kooky physicists, and the friends and romances that surround them. <\/p>\n Ryan Choi on Google said it\u2019s \u2018a sitcom that transcends the boundaries of traditional comedy by blending science, geek culture, and heartfelt storytelling into a truly unforgettable television experience.\u2019<\/p>\n And put simply, Madeline Kwon said it was the \u2018best TV show ever!\u2019<\/p>\n The Big Bang Theory is available to buy on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.<\/strong><\/p>\n Got a story?<\/strong><\/p>\n If you\u2019ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.co.uk<\/a> entertainment team by emailing us celebtips@metro.co.uk, calling 020 3615 2145 or by visiting our Submit Stuff<\/a> page \u2013 we\u2019d love to hear from you.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"FRIENDS](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/SEI_131055719-9719.jpg\")
