The death of the songwriter and guitarist prompted a wave of tributes after his family announced his death on social media, describing him as \u201cthe true Godfather of punk the legend\u201d.<\/p>\n

Burns played in a number of punk groups throughout the year, including Belfast band The Outcasts.<\/p>\n

A funeral notice for the musician indicated he will be buried on Wednesday, January 7 at 10.40am in Roselawn Crematorium.<\/p>\n

His remains will repose at Browns Funeral Home, Oldpark Road, Belfast, with anyone wishing to pay their respects asked to do so on Sunday (1-5pm) or Monday (9am-7pm). Tuesday will be strictly private.<\/p>\n

Everyone who met him loved him<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The notice described Wednesday\u2019s service as a \u201ccelebration of Petesy\u2019s life\u201d.<\/p>\n

“Petesy would like you to come as you are, no dress code,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n

“Afterwards friends and family are invited to celebrate Petesy at The Black Box from 1pm.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were widespread tributes to Mr Burns following news of his death, with former band The Outcasts saying his passing was \u201cheart breaking\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo words can express the sadness of losing our old mucker. Condolences and thanks go out to Anthea for the care and dignity she gave him at the end,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was so loved in the punk world & I mean the world. Everyone who met him loved him, but especially here. Rest in peace brother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Popular radio presenter and DJ Johnny Hero said the news was \u201cterrible\u201d.<\/p>\n

“Petesy has passed away. A talented, funny, decent man. We have definitely lost one of the good guys,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

In their tribute, Belfast city centre pub The Harp Bar wrote: \u201cWords fail me at this time to share about the passing of one of the most beautiful human beings around \u2026 our much loved Petesy.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart goes out to Anthea and all the family at this very sad time.\u201d<\/p>\n

One close friend of Mr Burns described his passion for punk as \u201climitless\u201d.<\/p>\n

“Petesy used to tell me I was very cynical for being 15 ….but we all used to hang around Just Books, drinking beer, eating guff (his really good veggie stew) and talking politics. For hours,\u201d Sheena Bleakney wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all got involved in Giros and Petesy was a huge character. Everyone knew him .<\/p>\n

\u201cHe always loved a deep discussion and music. And he continued to play in punk bands and tour right up until just recently. His energy and passion for punk was limitless.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel for his wife Anthea and his children Oran and Caoimhe …their hearts must be in a million pieces. My thoughts and condolences to them, at this terrible time.<\/p>\n
