(<a href=\"https:\/\/fox56news.com\/?ipid=dl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:FOX 56;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">FOX 56<\/a>) \u2014 The London City Council defends its budget cuts that were blocked by the court in a new filing submitted Friday, Jan. 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fox56news.com\/news\/kentucky\/__laurel-county-court-grants-restraining-order\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The court granted a restraining order;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">The court granted a restraining order<\/a> preventing the city council from implementing the ordinances that would have resulted in several city employees losing their jobs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In its most recent filing, the London City Council argued that several city departments were overstaffed for a city of London\u2019s size and were forced to take \u201cpre-emptive fiscal action, consistent with the public good, and in the interest of the citizens of London,\u201d according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/fox56news.com\/news\/kentucky\/__laurel-county-court-grants-restraining-order\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Laurel County court grants restraining order, temporary injunction on London City Council\u2019s ordinances;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> Laurel County court grants restraining order, temporary injunction on London City Council\u2019s ordinances <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The council said it was facing a potential $10 million liability related to the appropriation of garbage funds and that reducing staff would help ease the liability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As of August 2025, the City of London had 137 employees across multiple departments, including fire, police, and sanitation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The next hearing will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 5, when the judge will consider whether the restraining order should remain in place as the dispute continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
