Around 30,000 people attended. President Miguel D\u00edaz Canel characterized the Trump administration\u2019s military operation as \u201ca criminal assault against our America\u201d and \u201can unacceptable attack on international law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" q:slot=\"poster\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/c_fill,g_auto,w_390,h_220\/mpx\/2704722219\/2026_01\/1767489592620_nbc_spec_havana_maduro_augustin_260103_1920x1080-xopu1p.avif\" alt=\"Many Cubans worry about their own futures following Nicol\u00e1s Maduro\u2019s capture by U.S. forces\" width=\"390\" height=\"219.375\" class=\"_posterFrame_1wego_268\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"dg\">Participants at the rally were mainly older \u2014 reflecting the strata of society that tend to be likelier to support the government \u2014 and indignant at what they see as an abduction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"dj\">Mirna Fernandez, 53, who said she worked as a synchronized swimming teacher in Venezuela from 2012 to 2014, said she was worried about her 12-year-old godson who lives in Caracas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"dm\">\u201cI have many dear friends there who took me in as family,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m here, for my family in Venezuela and for the Venezuelan people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"dr\">Venezuela supplies Cuba with oil, with around 30,000 barrels arriving in Cuba every day. Already, most of Cuba is living most of the day without power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"du\">There is also a fear in Cuba that the developments in Venezuela could cause a deterioration of the quality of life because of power issues, including with spoiling food, trash and mosquitos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"dx\">U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at a news conference earlier today that \u201cCuba is a disaster,\u201d echoing comments made by Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"e0\">\u201cIt\u2019s run by incompetent, senile men,\u201d Rubio said. It has no economy; it\u2019s in total collapse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"feedBody\" q:key=\"Il_0\" q:id=\"e3\">Cuba has been the target of \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d sanctions that aim to wreck the economy. Economists say they cost the country billions of dollars a year.
