It has been a staple of the city’s high street for decades<\/p>\n

A staple of the Liverpool high street is due to close its doors for good. For generations Cricket has been a firm favourite in the city<\/a> thanks to its wide array of luxury fashion retail, that has proven popular with celebrities and footballer’s wives over the decades.<\/p>\n

In 1991, Justine Mills launched a shop<\/a> that, unbeknown to her, would become a luxury retailer known across the whole of the UK. The initial store began when Justine, then aged 18, opened Cricket as a menswear boutique <\/a>in Cavern Walks on Mathew Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of the 90s the store moved into high-end ladies fashion and quickly become the phenomenon we know today. Its sales went on to see huge queues lining the streets in front of the store, with shoppers keen to get their hands on a bargain from the high-end retailer. In fact, the store was that popular that schoolgirls would pop inside just to get one of the bags.<\/p>\n

After 28 years based at Cavern Walks Cricket moved to a larger unit in the Metquarter<\/a> in 2019 marking a new chapter for the store.<\/p>\n

It was one of the first independent retailers to stock Christian Louboutin shoes and accessories and in 2012, Cricket was chosen to celebrate Louboutin’s 20th anniversary limited edition collection alongside iconic department stores Harrods and Harvey Nichols.<\/p>\n

Over the years, many celebrities have been spotted with a famous Cricket shopping bag including actress Michelle Keegan and singer Kerry Katona, who have been known to frequent the store in the past.<\/p>\n

The Cricket Fashion show was a popular annual event in the city, with Coleen Rooney, Alex Gerrard, Nicola Carragher and Sheree Murphy all making an appearance at the event back in 2008.<\/p>\n

So, it’s very sad news for the city to see black signs with the words “closing down” pop up in the store’s windows, telling customers that “everything must go”.<\/p>\n

The ECHO spotted the posters on Sunday, January 4 and have asked the retailer for more information on the closure and final closing date.<\/p>\n
