VOTE NOW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Thousands of Britons took to the polls yesterday to do their civic duty and vote for who they think should lead in their local areas. <\/p>\n<p>Sir Keir Starmer\u2019s party faced a twin challenge of council and mayoral elections across England in what is largely being considered the party&#8217;s first electoral test since taking power last July.<\/p>\n<p>Starmer said voters faced a clear choice between Labour politicians \u201cworking together to bring change to Britain\u201d or \u201cchaos and division with parties who have no plan for change\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, as part of Labour&#8217;s plans announced by Angela Rayner in the English devolution White Paper in December, the Government could expand its plans to give local politicians more power and create more upper-tier unitary councils.<\/p>\n<p>Under the plan, these would cover large interconnected populations of at least 500,000, replacing existing structures in two-tier county areas.<\/p>\n<p>The Government argued that these new large councils, since labelled \u201csuper councils\u201d, can deliver \u201cbetter outcomes for residents\u201d and \u201csave significant money which can be reinvested in public services\u201d, as well as create the basis of structures for devolving powers to combined authorities under mayors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With that being said, do you think the Government should give more power to Britain&#8217;s local politicians?
