{"id":67482,"date":"2025-05-02T04:31:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T04:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/67482\/"},"modified":"2025-05-02T04:31:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T04:31:08","slug":"point-to-point-racing-returns-to-somerset-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/67482\/","title":{"rendered":"Point-to-point racing returns to Somerset this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Devon and Somerset Point-to-Point meeting returns to South Hill this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The event on Sunday, May 4, promises a thrilling day of racing set against the backdrop of the picturesque countryside.<\/p>\n<p>The first race is set to start at 2pm.<\/p>\n<p>The course is situated two miles north of Dulverton, off the B3223 at TA22 9PT.<\/p>\n<p>Early bird tickets for the event are priced at \u00a312.50 and can be purchased from <a href=\"http:\/\/pointingwessex.co.uk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:pointingwessex.co.uk;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">pointingwessex.co.uk<\/a> until Friday, May 2, at 6pm.<\/p>\n<p>For those unable to purchase in advance, tickets can be bought at the gate for \u00a315.<\/p>\n<p>Under-16s are admitted free of charge if accompanied by an adult.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature a bar, refreshments, and trade stands on site.<\/p>\n<p>Racegoers are advised that while cars can access the course via the B3223, lorries must not go through Dulverton and are instead directed via Winsford.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the day, the Devon &amp; Somerset Staghounds Challenge, sponsored by Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen and Robert Waley-Cohen, has attracted four entries, with Holiday Fund topping the list.<\/p>\n<p>The six-year-old has won twice this season at Dunsmore and secured a third at Wadebridge, marking him as a strong contender.<\/p>\n<p>His opponents include a course winner from last year, Steel Express, and Sizing Cusimano, who finished strongly at Trebudannon.<\/p>\n<p>The Tom Malone Bloodstock Maiden race has eight entries, with Blazing Litten leading on ratings.<\/p>\n<p>He finished second at Flete Park and is expected to enjoy the return to a three-mile course.<\/p>\n<p>River Story and People Pleaser are also promising entrants, with the latter having shown potential in his runs in Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The PFG Fabrication-sponsored Mixed Open looks to be a competitive affair, with 12 entries.<\/p>\n<p>The season&#8217;s Champion Novice Rider Elect, Rian Corcoran, has the choice of four mounts, including Young Buck and Jubertilee, both trained by his boss, Emma Summersby.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Loxton&#8217;s Switch Hitter, a three-time winner this season, is another significant contender.<\/p>\n<p>The Novice Rider&#8217;s Conditions race, sponsored by Stag Environmental, has nine entries.<\/p>\n<p>Jubertilee is joined by stablemate Dorrell&#8217;s Pierji, who was second in this race last year.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Newman&#8217;s Honestlyntruthfully, who won a similar race at Cherrybrook, is also expected to perform well.<\/p>\n<p>The Amhurst &amp; Shapland Conditions race for horses aged eight years and over has two significant entries from Luke Price, including Inchidaly Robin, who has won his last four races this season.<\/p>\n<p>The day&#8217;s finale, the Wedgewood Groundworks-sponsored Restricted, has 14 entries, with Ask Lileen the highest rated.<\/p>\n<p>She is coming off the back of a confidence-boosting win at Cothelstone.<\/p>\n<p>Luke Price has three entries, with Callaghy, who won a maiden at Chilfrome last month, the most promising.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Devon and Somerset Point-to-Point meeting returns to South Hill this weekend.
