{"id":675085,"date":"2026-01-05T09:09:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T09:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/675085\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T09:09:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T09:09:10","slug":"west-midlands-councils-struggling-to-deliver-bike-safety-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/675085\/","title":{"rendered":"West Midlands councils struggling to deliver bike safety training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The future health of children who cycle is becoming more important.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to statistics seen by the BBC, many of our councils with the lowest rates of cycleways and pavements for pedestrians are also the ones with declining Bikeability participation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But these are also areas &#8211; Sandwell, Wolverhampton, and Walsall &#8211; where the majority of children are predicted to be obese by 2035, according to the Royal Society for Public Health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Now the Bikeability Trust is working with councils to try and turn things around in the region and the government has said it will put more than \u00a3600m into new active travel plans across England. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This is on top of an earlier funding boost of \u00a330m in funding in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to the trust, reversing this decline will lead to more independent, healthier and safer children out and about on their bikes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The future health of children who cycle is becoming more important.
