{"id":675249,"date":"2026-01-05T11:02:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T11:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/675249\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T11:02:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T11:02:12","slug":"working-in-a-chippy-at-14-made-me-more-confident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/675249\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Working in a chippy at 14 made me more confident&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A few miles along the road, 15-year-old Harry is starting his evening paper round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He delivers a few papers before school, more after school \u2013 and also works part-time in a chip shop at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He says he has no idea what the rules are around when children can and can&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">For him, it&#8217;s about impressing future universities and employers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I think it looks good on CVs and stuff like that and when you&#8217;re older and you need to get a proper job,&#8221; he told BBC Scotland News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;In the future, I want to be either a lawyer or work in the stock market.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Harry would encourage other young people to find work if they can.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I think if you put yourself out there and you go and constantly speak to any employer at 14, if they&#8217;re hiring other 14-year-olds, I think you&#8217;ve got a pretty good shot at getting a job there if you&#8217;re confident.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A few miles along the road, 15-year-old Harry is starting his evening paper round.
