(Image Liz Weir)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-20gpm6\">A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for Northern Ireland, with hazardous conditions expected to develop from Monday evening through to Tuesday morning, raising concerns for commuters, motorists and pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-3v03n9\">The warning is effective from 5pm on Monday 5 January 2026 until 10am on Tuesday 6 January 2026, according to the Met Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-ummm312\">Forecasters say ice formation on untreated surfaces is likely to cause impacts in places, particularly as temperatures drop sharply following a day of unsettled weather.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-weight:700\">Risk of icy roads and pavements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-rgqe220\">Following rain, sleet and snow showers earlier today, surface temperatures are forecast to steadily fall below freezing in places under clearing skies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-369y926\">\u201cIce formation on untreated surfaces is likely to cause impacts in places on Monday evening, and overnight into Tuesday morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-9bier29\">Where roads, pavements and pathways have remained wet and untreated, conditions could quickly turn hazardous. The risk may be heightened in areas where additional showers wash away road treatments, a scenario forecasters say is more likely in the north of the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-b3u1935\">\u201cWhere surfaces have been wet and left untreated, or where subsequent showers wash off surface treatment (this more likely in the north of the country), there is a risk of icy stretches which could lead to some impacts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-weight:700\">Advice to the public<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-dz4xn57\">Motorists are being advised to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check travel conditions before setting out. Pedestrians should wear footwear with good grip and remain cautious on shaded or untreated surfaces where ice can persist even after sunrise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-qdro860\">Local councils and gritting teams are expected to focus on main routes, but conditions may vary significantly on untreated side roads and footpaths.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Icicles in the Glens of Antrim.
