{"id":676352,"date":"2026-01-05T22:27:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T22:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/676352\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T22:27:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T22:27:23","slug":"man-charged-with-absconding-from-hmp-leyhill-appears-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/676352\/","title":{"rendered":"Man charged with absconding from HMP Leyhill appears in court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A man has appeared in court charged with absconding from an open prison on New Year&#8217;s Day.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Aaron Thomas was arrested in Bristol on Saturday, after leaving HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire on Thursday and allegedly failing to return alongside two other prisoners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Thomas later attended the Bristol Royal Infirmary before voluntarily handing himself in to police for arrest, Bristol Magistrates&#8217; Court was told earlier. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 39-year-old, officially charged with escaping from lawful custody, appeared at court wearing dark prescription glasses, grey tracksuit trousers, a grey T-shirt and a dark grey fleece with a shaved head and beard.
