Photo credit: Ben Birchall\/PA Wire<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emily Price<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Wales\u2019 First Minister has been subjected to vile abuse and calls for her death after she posted a light-hearted video of a family outing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Baroness Eluned Morgan welcomed the New Year by taking on Europe\u2019s fastest zip line at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry in north Wales. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">She had gifted the adventurous day out to her husband as a Christmas present. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Baroness Morgan posted a video to Facebook of herself smiling whilst wearing Zip World gear and a helmet moments before she rode the park\u2019s terrifying \u2018Velocity\u2019 zip line. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Speaking in the video, she said: \u201cI intend to start this year as I mean to go on with energy, with enthusiasm and with a sense of adventure. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI\u2019m here at Chwarel Penrhyn in north Wales and just about to go 100 miles per hour down the fastest zip wire in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The video later attracted a large number of vulgar and intimidating comments from men offering to \u201ccut the wire\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The comments \u2013 obtained by Nation Cymru \u2013 have since been deleted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Facebook user Ian Ratty Humphries wrote: \u201cJust when you wish the wire would snap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Kenneth Roberts wrote: \u201cThe line didn\u2019t break then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Leighton Lee wrote: \u201cCut the wire please.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">David Jones added: \u201cIt would be nice to see someone there with an angle grinder or bolt cutters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Fray\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Steve Davies wrote: \u201cI hope that\u2019s a fray I spotted on the cable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Martyn Coldray commented: \u201cHope it snaps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Richard Higgs wrote: \u201cThe only day I\u2019ve forgotten my hacksaw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hefin Hughes added: \u201cWith someone pushing you off the edge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Giles Hulm commented: \u201cCouldn\u2019t trust anyone to clip her safety line on so she didn\u2019t go down\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Christian Utting wrote: \u201cHope it snaps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gary Francis wrote: \u201cCan anyone jam the cable whilst she is halfway down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Llew Rhobat wrote: \u201cWish I\u2019d seen this earlier. Got a new bolt cutter for Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Colin Grindey added: \u201cSomeone should have cut the wire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">David Mcaughtrie commented: \u201cShame someone didn\u2019t cut it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Nigel MacDonald wrote: \u201cHope it snaps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Toxic\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A source close to the First Minister said the abusive comments had \u201cno place in Welsh public life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">They said: \u201cThese comments expose the toxic culture that thrives on far right social media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAbuse of this kind is posted every day, undermining our politics and driving people out of public life. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOnline abuse should never be part of the job for public servants. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt runs against our values and has no place in Welsh public life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The latest bout of abuse comes following a story by Nation Cymru that featured female Senedd Members speaking out about the <a href=\"https:\/\/nation.cymru\/feature\/senedd-women-speak-out-about-harrowing-experiences-of-misogyny-intimidation-and-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appalling misogyny<\/a>, abuse and harassment they regularly face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The women of Wales\u2019 parliament relayed harrowing experiences, including death threats, rape threats and insults about their physical appearance.<\/p>\n<p>One MS we interviewed, who didn\u2019t wish to be named, told us that online abuse was the \u201chardest thing\u201d about being a politician and at times had caused her to fear for her own safety.<\/p>\n<p>                                Support our Nation today<\/p>\n<p>For the <strong>price of a cup of coffee<\/strong> a month you can help us create an<br \/>\n                                    independent, not-for-profit, national news service for the people of Wales, <strong>by<br \/>\n                                        the people of Wales.<\/strong>\n                                <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"First Minister of Wales Eluned Morgan during the Wales Investment Summit.
