{"id":677057,"date":"2026-01-06T05:59:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T05:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/677057\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T05:59:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T05:59:16","slug":"snow-warnings-continue-across-large-parts-of-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/677057\/","title":{"rendered":"Snow warnings continue across large parts of UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Most yellow alerts across the UK will expire at 11:00 GMT with the warnings for Scotland stretching into Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Heavy snow of 5-10cm is widely expected across its central and northern regions, with some areas set to see up to 15cm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Met Office has advised those in the area not to drive and to prepare for possible power cuts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Schools across the country continue to face closures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s as bad as I&#8217;ve seen it,&#8221; principal of St Patrick and St Brigid&#8217;s College in Claudy, Phillip McCullagh, told BBC Radio Ulster&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/live\/bbc_radio_ulster\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Good Morning Ulster<\/a> programme. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c4g5pg473z0o\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More than 150 schools<\/a> in Northern Ireland will be closed on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Aberdeenshire, Orkney and Shetland councils also announced that their schools would remain closed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In Wales, some schools in Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend will be shut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">On Monday, travel both across and outside of the country was impacted by the snow and ice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Eurostar trains were unable to reach the Netherlands and Network Rail Scotland warned of &#8220;exceptionally deep snow&#8221; limiting the progress of snow ploughs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">LNER advised anyone travelling between Edinburgh and Aberdeen not to travel until 14:00 GMT Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Flights were grounded at Liverpool John Lennon Airport after its runway had to be closed due to snow and ice. The airport reopened later in the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The wintry conditions have triggered cold weather payments across 451 postcodes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Under the scheme, households on certain benefits receive \u00a325 automatically if the temperature is their local area is recorded or forecast as 0C or below for seven consecutive days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Further snow is expected across the country on Thursday and Friday.
