{"id":677329,"date":"2026-01-06T08:59:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T08:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/677329\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T08:59:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T08:59:11","slug":"fen-skaters-take-to-ice-as-flooded-fields-freeze-at-welney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/677329\/","title":{"rendered":"Fen skaters take to ice as flooded fields freeze at Welney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/ce8geddqv5lo\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned people to stay off frozen lakes<\/a> after reports of youngsters playing on them at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, those involved in skating on the Fenland fields are quick to point out how shallow the frozen water they use is.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;This is completely different to a lake,&#8221; said Hew Williams, short track director at British Ice Skating. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Here we&#8217;ve got naturally flooded farmland that&#8217;s unique to this area of Britain and&#8230; there&#8217;s no flowing water underneath.
