Manchester United<\/a> have set their sights on attacking reinforcements following a dismal season in front of goal. The 20-time English champions have scored the fifth-fewest amount of goals in the Premier League this term, with Everton the only side outside of the bottom three to have netted fewer.<\/p>\n

Rasmus Hojlund<\/a>, who cost \u00a372million in 2023, and Joshua Zirkzee, who joined for \u00a336m less than 12 months ago, have scored a combined seven goals in the Premier League this term. Whether the attacking duo are still part of Ruben Amorim<\/a>\u2019s plans remains to be seen, but the Red Devils are certainly expected to add firepower to their frontline this summer.<\/p>\n

Matheus Cunha is a name United have been hotly linked with, alongside Liam Delap, whose relegation release clause was activated following Ipswich Town\u2019s immediate demotion<\/a> back to the second tier. It means clubs will be able to snatch the 22-year-old for just \u00a330m this summer – a figure that has put clubs across England\u2019s first tier, not just United, on red alert.<\/p>\n

Chelsea<\/a> and Newcastle<\/a> have been linked to the striker, and should either one of them finish inside the top five next season, they\u2019ll have the added benefit of Champions League football on offer next season. United could still qualify for the competition if they win the Europa League, but even if they miss out, the Old Trafford outfit still have a secret weapon up their sleeve in a bid to land Delap.<\/p>\n

It comes in the form of current technical director Jason Wilcox, who spent the best part of a decade working with rivals Manchester City<\/a>\u2019s academy. During his time as firstly the under-18s manager and then academy director, Wilcox worked with some of City\u2019s brightest youngsters, including the now highly sought-after Delap.<\/p>\n

United also have a clear reason for wanting to sign Delap, given Sir Jim Ratcliffe<\/a> outlined the club\u2019s plans to build a squad containing the best young English talents upon INEOS\u2019 arrival at Old Trafford. There are few with more potential right now than the Ipswich forward, who during his debut season in the Premier League has found the net 12 times.
