{"id":678784,"date":"2026-01-07T00:25:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T00:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/678784\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T00:25:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T00:25:15","slug":"wetherspoon-pub-in-hatch-end-refused-longer-opening-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/678784\/","title":{"rendered":"Wetherspoon pub in Hatch End refused longer opening hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Harrow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-now.co.uk\/news\/25740409.croydon-council-recovers-36-homes-crackdown-fraud\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Council<\/a> refused a planning application from JD Wetherspoon to extend trading hours at The Moon and Sixpence, located on Uxbridge Road in Hatch End.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The pub chain had applied to vary its opening hours under existing planning permission, but the council rejected the proposal on Friday, December 19, 2025.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Officers concluded that longer opening hours would likely lead to increased noise and disturbance during unsocial hours, negatively affecting nearby residents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The council said the application was not in line with key planning policies in both the London Plan and Harrow\u2019s Development Management Policies Local Plan.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Multiple objections were submitted by members of the public, including residents\u2019 groups and individuals living close to the pub.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  One resident wrote: &#8220;Hatch End is already becoming plagued with late night trading into the early hours.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;The harmful effect on local residents in flats above commercial premises in the high street and on the residential amenity of neighbouring roads should not be underestimated.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The objector said the area already suffers from increased noise and litter.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They said: &#8220;Additional noise into the early hours of the morning, taxis and patron&#8217;s cars stopping where they can, doors banging and the general hubbub of activity is intrusive into the personal lives of those living nearby.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Nearby streets such as Anselm Road, Cornwall Road, and Devonshire Road were named as likely to be impacted by late-night noise and disruption.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Another resident said: &#8220;Granting another late alcohol licence will be deeply irresponsible.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I urge the Council to refuse this application to extend licensing hours, to protect public safety, preserve community wellbeing, and uphold residents\u2019 right to quiet enjoyment of their homes.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Hatch End Association also objected, arguing the request would &#8220;set a precedent&#8221; for other pubs to seek later hours.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It pointed out that other venues close by already limit Thursday night opening hours to 12.30am and that an extension would not align with current policy or practice.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Wetherspoon has not currently indicated whether it intends to appeal the decision.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Harrow Council refused a planning application from JD Wetherspoon to extend trading hours at The Moon and Sixpence,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":678785,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7757],"tags":[748,393,4884,257,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-678784","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-london","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-england","10":"tag-great-britain","11":"tag-london","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115850977140292165","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/678784","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=678784"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/678784\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/678785"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=678784"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=678784"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=678784"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
