{"id":679013,"date":"2026-01-07T03:03:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T03:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/679013\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T03:03:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T03:03:11","slug":"owains-law-wife-takes-campaign-for-brain-tumour-tissue-changes-to-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/679013\/","title":{"rendered":"Owain&#8217;s Law: Wife takes campaign for brain tumour tissue changes to Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He underwent a six-hour operation to remove the golf ball-sized tumour, but in July he learned that it had started to grow again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 38-year-old said fundraising helped him raise \u00a3100,000 for a treatment not available on the NHS \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kch.nhs.uk\/news\/final-results-of-brain-cancer-clinical-trial-published\/\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DcVax-L, external<\/a>, a personalised vaccine made using cells from the patient&#8217;s own tumour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But it relies on the correct storage of a patient&#8217;s tumour and, due to the way his brain tissue was stored after surgery, he was only able to receive four doses of the treatment rather than the 10 that were initially planned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It wouldn&#8217;t have cured my cancer, but it could have given me a couple more months,&#8221; said Collins, who said he has been given between 12-18 months to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s so important to have the tissue stored properly, and that people are aware of the options they have.
