{"id":679498,"date":"2026-01-07T08:17:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T08:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/679498\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T08:17:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T08:17:10","slug":"century-old-tumours-could-reveal-why-more-young-people-are-getting-bowel-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/679498\/","title":{"rendered":"Century-old tumours could reveal why more young people are getting bowel cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Holly, 27, is one of a growing number of young people getting the disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Her bloating and weight loss were originally put down to irritable bowel syndrome until she became so ill she ended up in A&amp;E.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The young actress was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer and needed aggressive treatment when she was just 23.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Holly said the intense chemotherapy &#8220;affected me in ways that I never thought it would&#8221; and the &#8220;hardest thing was just accepting that\u2026 life won&#8217;t be the same&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She now lives with a stoma and needs regular monitoring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Holly has been cancer-free for more than three years and is planning her wedding, but says there are days that being diagnosed so young leaves her &#8220;screaming and crying&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It all feels really unfair and I think, oh why me?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Science doesn&#8217;t have a clear answer either. Everything from obesity and ultra-processed foods, to antibiotics and the microbiome to air pollution and microplastics have been suggested. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Holly, 27, is one of a growing number of young people getting the disease.
